Nine write to county officials on airport plan
Carroll County -

Eight people and one group — five opponents and four supporters — have written to Carroll County commissioners since last week’s public hearing on the proposed airport expansion, according to correspondence reviewed by The Examiner.

The following are excerpts.

Thomas Coburn, Coburn Chemicals: “Using airport services has allowed my company ... to reach clients that would otherwise be costly and difficult to pursue.”

Tom Williard, Surdex Corp.: “An airport expansion would greatly enhance our aviation operations and ensure we continue to be a tenant for years to come.”

Robert Fehle Jr., Hampstead: “I do not like pork-belly projects, either, but a fact of our federal government is that pork-belly projects do exist, and we at least can take advantage of this one.”

David Roush, Westminster: “Undoubtedly, there will be a few property owners that will have to sell their property or will have significant negative impacts to deal with. But these impacts are a relative few and should not outweigh the great positives for the county as a whole.”

Hilde Bridges, Westminster: “How would you like to face earthshaking sound as background noise every time you are idiotic enough to think of using your grill or relaxing on your outdoor furniture?”

Moffett May, Westminster: “I ask you to consider how you would feel if someone put your parents in this position, and I pray that you will not put us and other senior citizens through this.”

Tracy Davis, Westminster: “Business has and will continue to come here. We don’t have to destroy what we have to make it happen.”

Alan Bear, Westminster: “What is the expansion going to do for the average citizen?”

Concerned Citizens United, residents group: “Concerned Citizens United is in the process of consulting with legal counsel. Our mission is to protect the rights of citizens of Carroll County.”
