SFUSD, three schools take state tech grants
SAN FRANCISCO -
The San Francisco Unified School District and three charter schools in The City have recently been awarded grants through the state’s Enhancing Education Through Technology program. The district and campuses were among more than 1,200 recipients of the grants, which totaled $32 million this year. The schools, which include Gateway High School, the KIPP Bay View Academy and the KIPP San Francisco Bay Academy, will receive a total of $2,235, while the district will receive $170,360. The grant program is designed to help every student become technologically literate by the eighth grade. Most of The City’s courses, overseen by the Recreation and Park Department, are in average to below-average condition, and $1.4 million of city money was sunk into their operation this year to offset a deficit. The committee will examine a variety of options for future operation of the courses, including privatization. The Board of Supervisors Budget and Finance Committee will hold a hearing on the golf courses on Wednesday, at 1 p.m., at City Hall, Room 250.
