DEA raids suspected meth lab in Sunset district

Federal agents found materials they believe were used to operate a meth lab in San Francisco’s Sunset neighborhood Thursday. Federal agents raided a Sunset district home Thursday and arrested a man allegedly operating a meth lab. Agents arrested Daniel Nogara, 28, after a search of his two-level home revealed glassware and chemicals used in making methamphetamines, Drug Enforcement Agency spokeswoman Casey McEnry said Thursday. Nogara was on federal probation for gun and drug charges, and federal probation agents had been monitoring his activity, McEnry said. They began to suspect he was involved in narcotics once again, and contacted the DEA about a month ago. On Thursday, DEA and probation agents raided Nogara’s residence in the 1200 block of 45th Avenue at about 9 a.m. There, officials say they found sodium hydroxide, acetone, phoshphorus, butane and “other associated chemicals” for making methamphetamine. They also found glassware capable of cooking about an ounce of the substance at a time, McEnry said. “When our agents entered the residence, they were overwhelmed with a smell,” McEnry said. “Because of the fumes, agents immediately broke the windows in that level of the residence to ventilate it.” Nogara, who was at the residence at the time of the raid, was taken into custody on probation violations. Narcotics charges against him are pending, McEnry said. No other suspects were indicated in the case. |
