The board for San Francisco’s Municipal Transportation Agency will vote today on a traffic calming plan for neighborhoods throughout The City, among other actions and agenda items. The traffic calming plans are for the Inner Sunset, Excelsior, Bayview, 18th Avenue, West Portal, O’Shaughnessy Boulevard, Broad and Randolph streets, Circular Avenue and Teresita Boulevard neighborhoods. Traffic calming tools include speed humps, sidewalk bulb-outs, traffic islands and trees. The MTA board will also have a presentation and discussion on its fiscal year 2008 budget. The meeting will be held at 2 p.m. in Room 400 of City Hall.

Nominations due for Teacher of the Month Awards

Residents have until Friday to nominate an exceptional teacher to receive the Mayor’s Teacher of the Month Award.

Newsom established the award in May 2006 to recognize outstanding San Francisco public school teachers. Teachers are nominated by community members.

Nominations are voted on by a select committee, which will recommend winners for the months of January through April. A second nomination period begins in March. Newsom will ultimately review the recommendations and award the chosen teachers.

Community meeting

City planners talk about former Schlage Lock Site

City planners are holding a community meeting Saturday to discuss the future of the former Schlage Lock site in Visitacion Valley.

The community meeting will be held Saturday, at 9:30 a.m., at the Visitacion Community Center, which is at 66 Raymond Ave.
