Work underway to improve ramp to Wisconsin Avenue
WASHINGTON -
Some 244,000 drivers will have to deal with minor headaches in order to see improvements to the Inner Loop’s exit for southbound Wisconsin Avenue. The Maryland State Highway Administration has contracted with Civil Construction of Cheverly to add a second lane on the ramp for $654,000, according to SHA officials. Work on the project began last week. “We installed a traffic signal there last year at the top of that ramp on Maryland [Route] 355. What we want to do now to keep it from backing up into the mainline traffic is to add a second lane,” said Charles Gischlar, a SHA spokesman. “That is right where the [Interstate] 270 spurs come in.” Gischlar said rush hour traffic has not been effected by the construction, and should be improved this spring once the project is completed. Work crews will add the second lane, as well as resurface the ramp, during the hours of 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. cgoodman@dcexaminer.com |
