Proposition A: Teachers get salary boost
SAN FRANCISCO -
San Francisco’s public-school teachers will receive hefty raises following the approval of Proposition A, a $198 parcel tax. The proposition, which required two-thirds support, will raise an estimated $28 million each year for teachers’ salaries, incentives to work in hard-to-staff areas, high-tech classroom improvements, charter schools and “think tanks” to innovate schools. With the funds, a starting teacher’s salary would rise from $47,478 to $52,250 — “which will make us really competitive” with other districts, said Superintendent Carlos Garcia. |
