Hed: Displacements linger after Towson fire

About 70 elderly and disabled residents of a Towson apartment high-rise remain displaced after an underground electrical fire Sunday, Baltimore County officials said Wednesday.

Virginia Towers residents are staying at the Comfort Inn on Loch Raven Boulevard while Baltimore Gas & Electric officials repair damage from the blaze, officials said. About 200 people were relocated, officials said.

The apartments themselves were mostly unaffected.

The incident was similar to an electrical fire at Virginia Towers in August, said fire spokeswoman Elise Armacost.

HED: No body found as murder trial begins in Anne Arundel

The jury trial for a Baltimore City man accused of murder began Wednesday in Anne Arundel Circuit Court even though authorities never found the victim’s body.

Antonio Moore, 21, is charged with first-degree murder, assault and kidnapping for allegedly shooting Michael Francis, 21, about 6:30 a.m. April 14 in the 5100 block of Brookwood Road in Brooklyn Park and then stuffing the body into the trunk of a car and driving away, according to charging documents.

His trial before Judge Michele Jaklitsch is expected to conclude by Friday, and Moore could face up to life in prison.

Moore had been on trial for the murder in February, but the case was dismissed.

Francis’ body wasn’t found, but Anne Arundel police discovered his bloody clothes in the back of the car, and witnesses reported seeing Moore shoot him, according to charging documents.
