Dog attacks Anne Arundel deputy sheriff

A pit bull attacked an Anne Arundel deputy sheriff who was serving an arrest warrant in Glen Burnie, according to the Sheriff’s Office on Monday. Deputy Sheriff Jimmie Junior was searching for suspect Jennifer Ludwig, whose father allowed Junior and other deputies into his residence on Harvard Road to search for her. When Ludwig’s father opened a bedroom door Sunday, a pit bull jumped out and attacked Junior, according to the Sheriff’s Office report. He suffered multiple bite wounds before the dog’s owner locked it in the bedroom. Junior was treated for his bite wounds at Anne Arundel County Medical Center. Animal Control was notified of the incident. – Carolyn Peirce

Howard police arrest six at DUI checkpoint

Howard police said they stopped more than 800 vehicles at a sobriety checkpoint on southbound Route 1 in Savage. Between Friday and Saturday, six drivers were charged with driving under the influence of alcohol or driving while impaired by alcohol or drugs, police said. One suspended driver was arrested. – Carolyn Peirce

Annapolis drug probe nets 17 arrests; 5 suspects missing

Annapolis police said an investigation into the city’s drug trade resulted in 12 suspects being arrested. Anne Arundel police and the county Sheriff’s Office helped in arresting the suspects on drug distribution charges and related offenses after undercover officers and informants purchased drugs from the suspects, police said. The operation took several months, and police still are searching for five other suspects facing drug distribution charges. – Carolyn Peirce
