Court cancels arraignment of teen charged with murder An arraignment for the Cockeysville teenager charged with murdering his family was canceled Monday. Nicholas Browning, 16, is charged with the slayings of his father John Browning, 45, mother, Tamara, 44, and brothers Gregory, 14, and Benjamin, 11, who were found dead in their Cockeysville home Feb. 2. He faces up to life in prison. No trial date has been set. It is common practice in Baltimore County Circuit Court for judges to cancel arraignments for suspects who have retained attorneys. Browning has hired Baltimore-based lawyer Joshua Treem. – Luke Broadwater Man tossed gun in chase; police cite drug possession Anne Arundel police arrested a Glen Burnie man who tossed a handgun into the woods and tried to dump out a bag of suspected cocaine as police chased him. Steven Salo, 22, was arrested last week after bailing from a car at Green Branch Lane and Winding Wood Road in Glen Burnie and leading police on a foot chase, according to the police report. Police found the .38 caliber handgun and an estimated $2,800 worth of cocaine that Salo dumped. Detectives searched Salo’s apartment on Budding Branch Road and found a loaded shotgun and another $200 worth of cocaine. Salo is charged with possession with intent to distribute cocaine and carrying a firearm while trafficking drugs, among other charges, police said. – Carolyn Peirce |
