Indictment includes glossary of gang slang
BALTIMORE -
What’s a “crab”? How about a “550”? Or “baby love”? In a lengthy federal indictment against Maryland’s TTP Bloods gang, prosecutors needed to put in a glossary of terms to explain the evidence to a judge or potential jurors. Some terms might prove easy for average citizens to interpret. Other phrases would likely leave most people scratching their heads, searching for a definition. Below are some excerpts from that glossary, which was released Monday, that explain gang lingo: » “Crab” is a derogatory term for a member of the rival Crips gang. » “550” is a civilian — neither a Bloods member nor a member of a rival gang. » “Triple 9” refers to cooperating with law enforcement. » “Platinum” is a firearm. » “Baby love” refers to money. » “Pup” or “Peanut” refers to persons pledging to become a part of the gang. » “Big Homey” is a gang leader. » “911” is a meeting of the TTP gang. » “Stack” refers to $1,000. » “On the menu” or “labeled food” means a person is a target who will be beaten or killed. » “Roscoes” is a term for police officers. » “Peter roll” is a term for assault or murder. » “Twirl” is to talk. » “Birthday boy” stands for a person who is about to be robbed. » “036” is a female Bloods member. The indictment also explains the hierarchy in rank of the TTP Bloods in descending order: » OOOG (Original Gangster 3) » OOG (Original Gangster 2) » OG (Original Gangster) » OYG (Original Young Gangster) lbroadwater@baltimoreexaminer.com |
