Man poses as armored car driver, robs Howard bank

A man posing as an armored car driver made off with a large amount of cash Thursday from an Ellicott City bank, Howard police said.

Dressed as a security employee, the man walked into the Bank of America in the 9100 block of Baltimore National Pike, picked up the cash and drove off in what appeared to be a personal car, police said.

Suspicious bank employees called the security company, which confirmed the man didn’t work for them.

Police are offering up to a $10,000 reward for information in the case.

Arrests made in spree of teller machine robberies

State police Thursday arrested three men they said stole vehicles, rammed them into convenience stores and then made off with the ATMs inside the buildings.

Police arrested Rico A. Proctor, 19, of Capitol Heights, Bobby L. Proctor, 22, of Seat Pleasant, and Dale K. Proctor, 39, of Washington, D.C., after a tri-state investigation involving several police departments and the FBI. In Maryland, the men robbed Carroll stores in Keymar, Finksburg and Manchester in September and November.

Investigators said the men might be responsible for as many as 38 burglaries in 23 jurisdictions, netting more than $180,000 and causing more than $1 million in damages. – Jaime Malarkey

Pa. man dies in wreck

A Hanover, Pa., man died Thursday morning after a two-vehicle wreck in Westminster, state police said.

Todd Harris Sr., 44, lost control of his car on a curve of Old Washington Road around 9 a.m., crossed into the opposing traffic and collided with a truck driven by Richard Darrel Clayton, of Westminster, police said.

Harris was transported via helicopter to University of Maryland Shock Trauma in Baltimore City, where he was pronounced dead.

Clayton refused medical treatment. – Kelsey Volkmann
