SAN MATEO -
Two new evening trains, one northbound and one southbound, will be added March 3 to Caltrain's weekday schedule after the Board of Directors voted today to approve the plan.
The additional trains will fill a gap in evening service in both directions, and will therefore make the schedule easier for customers to remember.
Under the new schedule trains will depart every hour on the half hour from San Jose and San Francisco from 7:30 p.m. until 10:30 p.m. However, there will still be an additional southbound train that departs from San
Francisco at 12:01 a.m., according to spokesman Jonah Weinberg.
The expansion is a result of Caltrain staff members that worked closely with Peninsula communities and identified opportunities to increase transit options for passengers.
"This is a great example of collaboration between communities and a public agency," Caltrain board member and San Mateo County Supervisor Jerry Hill said in a statement.
