To move PGCPS forward we need Donna Beck

We disagree on the sibling lottery policy and I take serious issue with her position in support of the cell phone ban, however there should be no doubt that of all the incumbents running for reelection Donna Beck deserves to be reelected the most.

You can always tell when it is election time because the level of political theater seems to almost double up. In the past few weeks a lot of people have been commenting on the race for the Board of Education in the 9th District. Much of this debate centered on the fact that Donna Beck referred to a parent as a b***h in an email. I want to be clear that it is never okay for an elected or appointed official for that matter to refer to a citizen in the manner Mrs. Beck did that day. However it should also be reported that Donna Beck apologized. It is sad that one of Mrs. Beck’s challengers have used this incident as a fog screen to the real issues our school system will face over the next four years. Even worst is that this challenger apparently didn’t read everything about the situation before blasting it out to listserves across the county. If he did he would had learned that Mrs. Beck only used the phrase out of frustration with a community organization who had launched an all out and public attack on the Student Member of the Board. The words Mrs. Beck used were not appropriate for an elected official and she apologized but now it is time to move on.

There are few members of the Board of Education that deserve reelection in my mind but one of them has to be Donna Beck. In the final days before the filing deadline candidate after candidate threw their hat in the ring to challenge Beck’s attempt to win a second term, but none of them match her leadership, knowledge, or passion for a great public school system. None of them will be able to match her influence and political connections to get things done for our children.
