After receiving a generous donation from the parents of a patient, Arizona is coherced into doing a risky surgery against her medical judgment. Ultimately, the patient dies and the parents of the deceased gives the donation anyway, no thanks to Chief Webber.
Cristina performs a medical procedure against Owen and Callie's orders. Despite having saved the patient's life, this causes a rift between Owen and Cristina.
Meanwhile, Alex helps a preemie by holding it against his body. After receiving Izzie's medical bills while she's still gone, Alex relentlessly holds onto the baby in order to cope with everything else. Seeing his heroics, Reed develops a crush on Alex.
Callie plans a surprise birthday party for Arizona. Unfortunately, after a long day, Arizona breaks down at the party and leaves. At the party, Jackson drunkenly kisses Cristina, but she says she's involved. Cristina ultimately apologizes to Owen and admits to her mistake. The two reconcile.
