Although Thanksgiving is mostly a family and personal reflection holiday – and for some of you an excuse to shop for bargains – there are several things that a learning professional should be thankful for. This Examiner has compiled a list of his top twenty. See if you agree. If not, please comment so that the person or item you, as a learning professional, are thankful for receives proper recognition.
The top 20 things a learning professional should be thankful for include the following.
20. Banquet hall and logistic meeting workers – They take care of the set up, the food and beverage delivery, and other items that make our learners comfortable so they can focus on learning.
19. Technicians and AV personnel – Without them, nothing would work. They are instrumental to a presentation’s success and never receive the applause that is their due.
18. Meeting planners – Working in a tough environment, with minimal time and resources, these detail conscious experts somehow manage to make everything happen.
17. Conferences and meetings – Human learning is largely social. Meetings and conferences provide the opportunity for us to get together so we can learn, grow, and share in community.
16. Professional Associations – Besides hosting many of the conferences in which we learn, ASTD, IAL, NSA, ASCD, ISPI, and all the other associations help us become better, more informed, learning professionals.
The next three articles will list items 15-11, 10-6, and 5-1. I have likely left out something you consider important. What would you add?
