30 Days to One Month to Live. The countdown has begun.
Western Oklahoma is mobilizing, and the countdown has begun. The One Month to Live 30-day challenge is just 30 days away. Over 400 books have been ordered for the greater Elk City area. Many people already had books. Yard signs, wrist bands, leader’s guides, and videos have also been ordered.
Churches from around western Oklahoma are getting excited about this challenge to live life to the full. Why can’t we live with the same freedom those individuals who have only a month or two on this earth realize ever so late? Perhaps we can. That is the premise of this most provocative challenge.
The challenge is rooted in a book written by Kerry and Chris Shook which asks the title question, “what would you do if you had ONE MONTH TO LIVE? The book became a best seller and churches across the country started exploring this question.
Many churches in the town of Clinton, Oklahoma dived headfirst into the challenge over a year ago. This year’s program is centered a little farther west and grew from seeds planted in the Elk City Ministerial Alliance many months ago—months that have flown by very quickly. Churches in the surrounding area joined in the challenge, to include the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Burns Flat, Oklahoma.
Why join this challenge at this time?
The time for both personal growth and community harvest is at hand. The Cumberland Presbyterian Church decided that this program would be both our Spring Revival and our Kick Off Evangelism event. The very provocative question, what would you do if you had only one month to live causes us to look inward and outward. It gives us cause to look at the quality of our life—its abundance; and it gives us urgency to look at the mission that we as Christians have been commissioned to fulfill—make disciples.
Stay tuned for more information on the kick off events that are now less than a month away.
What if I don’t live in western Oklahoma? Yes, I will pray for God to bless this program, but I would like to do more. I would like to experience this month with those in the Great Plains area from where I live and log in.
We thought that some might. Whether you purchase the book or not, you may follow along at One Month to Live Burns Flat. Follow this link and you will find some preliminary ponderings and the daily readings for whenever you begin your challenge. You don’t have to start on the 21st of February, but there is some added excitement when you know that people all around you part of the state are reading and meditating on the same thing.
The daily readings have opportunities for comments so you can participate online whether you physically meet with a group or not. Join the challenge wherever you are or from wherever you log in.
