Pregnancy 101: Where can I find a prenatal photographer in Houston?

Pregnancy can be a once in a lifetime experience, unlike any other a women will have. And even if she becomes pregnant a second, third, fourth time or more, chances are each will be as unique as the first with different feelings, cravings, and overall expectations. Having prenatal photographs taken by a professional photographer is an excellent way to document the beauty of pregnancy and will remain a cherished memento long after baby is born.

In order to receive the most impressive results in your photos it is important to choose a photographer that makes you feel comfortable. Prenatal photo sessions, also referred to as maternity sessions, are intimate but the range of intimacy can vary widely depending on your level of comfort. The photographer will consult with you on your apprehensions before beginning a maternity session to ensure the most relaxed atmosphere possible. It is also important to consider if you are planning on maintaining an ongoing relationship with the photographer. Most photographers have baby packages consisting of 3 to 4 sessions to document  various stages of your baby's life, making the rapport of the photographer-client relationship even more important.

Before deciding on a photographer, you should feel comfortable asking them questions such as how long they have been practicing photography, what training have they had, and specifically, if they have taken maternity photographs in the past. Also, take the time to view their previous work, which is available on most photographer's web sites. Photography is a creative art and each photographer has a unique vision. The photographer's style will be obvious when viewing their portfolio, making it easier to judge if they will be able to provide the look you are hoping to capture.

All of the following photographers are experienced in maternity photography. Visit their web sites to view their work or contact them to discuss photography session ideas. Keep in mind, the best time to have maternity portraits taken is generally between 32 and 35 weeks, but can depend on your comfort level with your weight, also.

What a fun job that must be for the photographer

Julie... I am the owner of Studio Ainsley and I can say, "Yes! This is a spectacular job!" =) Documenting the precious first stages of life is an incredible gift for parents-to-be and, in later years, for the child to see how much he/she was loved and nurtured from the start.

Very good article and it's nice how women are having their pregnancy pictures done now, not something that was done in my day.
