Obama bows to Japanese Emperor, and even the Japanese are embarrassed

WTF???

Good grief.

Want a sense of just how jarring it was for Obama to prostrate himself before the Japanese emperor?

Well, even the Japanese are mortified and trying to minimize the embarrassment to the American Presidency.

According to ABC News, the Kyodo News – Japan’s equivalent of the Associated Press – has declined to publish and propagate the really embarrassing photo of the President of the United States bowing before Emperor Akihito and instead will use a photo of the less humiliating nod-and-shake Obama offered to the Empress.

Whew.

Thank goodness that Kyoto News has the sense of sobriety, decorum, and protocol that momentarily escaped Obama when he met Japan’s monarchs. No, this bow is not the end of the world, but yes, it is really unsettling to see a still photo of the President of the United States in full bend at the waist genuflecting to the Emperor of Japan.

I mean look at this:

Come on, dude! No American wants to see their President's head anywhere near any king's crotch. Ugh. And this is the second time Obama has made this goof, having left his coutnrymen scratching their heads when he bowed before the Saudi King earlier this year.

Somebody needs to remind the President when meeting these foreign leaders to just repeat to himself: “Do not move my spine. Do not move my spine. Do not move my spine…”

We will move on from this, but please let's not have a strike three, shall we?

Hmmmm...donno what to say. He's been over-humble though...African Presidents never bow...I think he has to learn this...the people should let him know is not right...He's not perfect and has his own weakness...so let him know it's not done.

Doesn't the president have a protocol officer? Someone to brief him on proper behavior during these affairs? I can't help but get the feeling that its amateur hour all the time for this president.

I want a president that will make me proud to be an American.

If Obama is bowing to show that Japan and US can be friends, nope. The United States can not be real friends with any country ever. We must protect our country FIRST. The last twenty years seems to be save the world - spend money. Yet, our own people need help. Charity begins at home. Quit sending my tax money out of the country. That's not why I pay taxes.

Of all people shouldn't he have a complete understanding of the proper decorum and protocol for that part of the world?

dowhatisright: Bowing is how Asians greet each other. The bible say the "abomination" not the obama-nation. Get a left-wing so you can fly high enough to see balance- you are way too far to the right. Obama is the president of the USA if you believe that the president of the US is so royal: then respect him.
I wish some of our presidents did bow when the needed to else they wouldn't get their heads shot off. Do you thing arrogance shows strength or weakness?
FIGHTING A WAR FOR 8 YEARS WITHOUT SUCCESS IS WHAT MAKES AMERICA LOOKS WEAK- the president that did not bow is responsible for that.
And look around and see the world around us, wake up from oblivion. We are getting left behind, and that is the fact. we are not the super power of the world, that was a while ago.
The authority to rule the world will never come from below. In order to have power over something you must first rise above it. God is the supreme leader- not the US president. He should show respect when in other la

Ok, once was bad enough, but twice??? DK calls it a "goof", but how can someone so intelligent make the same "mistake" twice? He had the benefit of the doubt before, but now I've got to wonder. If a third time happens, there will be no doubt at all, this is no accident.

American people are so arrogant - and so weak. Don´t you have anything better to concern? Tsc, tsc, with a nation like USA in control there´s no other way to the world except dying.

Yeah, the American people are arrogant, that's why the rest of the world takes billions and billions of our dollars every year. America gives more in aid to other countries than any nation in the world.

America may be arrogant, but the rest of the world are selfish, greedy, and ungrateful. Tsk tsk my eye!

    D.K. Jamaal rocks!

Keep writing with a delightful sense of the absurd. These days we got so much angst and bankrtuptcy (moral, economic, etc.) it feels good to see the Emperor of the Americas stupaked by the Washington Taliban....amen

I seem to recall that the lower you bow in Japanese culture the higher amount of respect you are showing. I don't think this is a big deal. If for any reason it is a lower bow than previous presidents, it might be because Obama knows that the US dollar is screwed and hopes nations like Japan with over 1 trillon in US bonds can forgive our reckless spending behavior. Am I wrong?

There are two important distinctions here. First, only Obama bowed; the emperor did not bow back. Second, this is an emporer rather than an elected official. Americans do not venerate royalty; we respect acheivement, rule of law, and duly elected leaders.
