Governor Paterson, others slam Obama White House for trying terrorists in New York City

Gov. Paterson: 'Hi Obama, I hate you.' (AP Photo/Mike Groll)

Remember when Obama threw David Paterson under the bus in an attempt to push the governor out of his bid for re-election?

Well, Governor Paterson isn’t taking it lying down. First Paterson’s wife reacted by responding by questioning Obama’s black bonafides, wondering aloud about the propriety of the first black President cutting off at the knees the first black New York governor.

Now Paterson is actively trying to distance himself from the increasingly unpopular President, gleefully slamming the Obama administration for its controversial decision to hold Guantanamo terror trials in New York City – which has raised the odious possibility of the terrorists being released in America if the trials go wrong and their lawyers successfully manipulate the vagaries of our notoriously unpredictable American justice system. Said Paterson:

"This is not a decision that I would have made. I think terrorism isn't just attack, it's anxiety and I think you feel the anxiety and frustration of New Yorkers who took the bullet for the rest of the country. Our country was attacked on its own soil on September 11, 2001 and New York was very much the epicenter of that attack. Over 2,700 lives were lost. It's very painful. We're still having trouble getting over it. We still have been unable to rebuild that site and having those terrorists so close to the attack is gonna be an encumbrance on all New Yorkers."

Paterson’s comments jibe with those of Republicans – like former New York mayor and 9/11 hero Rudy Giuliani – who believe that trying terrorist masterminds in New York is a bad idea giving the terrorists constitutional rights not usually offered to enemy combatants in wartime and thus opening the door for their release on constitutional technicalities – especially if any aspect of their arrest and detention is found to be unconstitutional.

Even Obama’s Secretary of State – the hawkish progressive Hillary Rodham Clinton – declined express enthusiasm for the decision, saying merely that she would not “second-guess” it. Ouch.

Were these terrorists read their rights? Was the evidence against them legally obtained? Were they tortured while in detention?

And will a judge be forced to release them on these or similar grounds?

If the Paterson and Giuliani contingent is correct and the trials go haywire, America will be in serious trouble. And the Obamacratic Party will be destroyed. May God forbid it.

TEG: Would you have us bow to our President, too? I think DK posted up a great blog of our Beloved demonstrating to the rest of the world exactly how Americans should behave moving forward. But don't blame him, he was British for the first part of his life before he became an American, at least that is what his book says.

I would hate to burst your bubble, but exactly how many SSNs does our Beloved have anyways? I think the number was up to 39 by last count...but who's counting anyways. Sadly, Michelle is still using the one they used in GA even today, except she was Michelle Smith back then, married to a Fred Smith. Oh well...don't haite the playas, haite the game!

    Mr. Jamaal,

Excellent article! But, please explain why G-d should forbid destruction of the Obamamatic Party. I understand the America in trouble part, that I get. But destroying the party of the undocumented Democrats (who have stolen jobs from our youth now for two decades), a party that is attempting to plunder our health care system, exterminate our minorities through wholesale abortion, and belittle our institutions is something we should all be praying for - even the real Democrats. Well, he may do himself in next time he bows too deeply, swallowing his own toes.

This article basically says don't try the men in New York as they'll be judged accordingly with regards to the constitution.

Pretty much sums it all up about the Republicans I guess.

Plunkett- "don't try the men in New York as they'll be judged accordingly with regards to the constitution."

The constitution is for citizens of the United States, not for terrorists that commit acts of war. Enemy combantants get a fair trial by military court, which has been done by past presidents, approved by the courts and Congress, and even going to be used with other terrorists by Holder. Putting this trial in a civilian court is a sham, and is politically motivated. Terrorists do not get Miranda rights, the right to an attorney when caught, a trial by their peers (who would that be?), nor the presumption of innocence. This is a bad, bad move by Obama & Holder.

HEre is what Obama said May 15 2009.

    www.cnn.com/2009/POLITICS/05/14/obama.military.tribunal/index.html

Obama said he supports the idea of the military commissions but opposes the version of the law that had been governing such trials in recent years: the Military Commissions Act put in place under the Bush administration in 2006, but subsequently struck down as unconstitutional by the Supreme Court.

The president said military commissions "are appropriate for trying enemies who violate the laws of war, provided that they are properly structured and administered." But, he said, the 2006 act "failed to establish a legitimate legal framework and undermined our capability to ensure swift and certain justice against those detainees."

What changed? Or is this more proof Obama lies? He is on every side of every issue.

HERE is a product of another time thse people were treated as criminals instead of the terrorists they are. We will see more of the same again!
People are too soon to forget!
    www.reuters.com/article/domesticNews/idUSTRE5AG4CE20091117

"A disbarred New York lawyer convicted in 2005 on charges of supporting terrorism by helping an imprisoned blind Egyptian cleric smuggle messages to militant followers was ordered to prison by a U.S. federal appeals court that upheld her conviction on Tuesday.

The appeals court also ordered the trial judge to consider lengthening the 28-month prison sentence given to civil rights lawyer Lynne Stewart, 70, saying the judge had declined to consider whether Stewart committed perjury."

"...which has raised the odious possibility of the terrorists being released in America if the trials go wrong ..."

No, they would be DEPORTED - and considering their backgrounds and likely new 'homes,' they'd probably prefer a federal prison or even a US death sentence.

Jihad, you confuse Obama's statements about treating those who violate the International Laws of War with the proposal to try people accused of US FEDERAL crimes, in this case, terrorist acts.

Anyone who honestly believes these guys could escape convictions is living in an alternate reality.
