The Portland Trail Blazers have confirmed today the news that center Joel Przybilla will miss the remainder of the 2009-10 season. The starting center for the Blazers had surgery Thursday morning to repair his ruptured right patella tendon, an injury suffered Tuesday night in Dallas.
The injury is believed to be much worse than the injury suffered by former number 1 overall draft pick Greg Oden earlier this month. Przybilla jumped for a rebound with 3:12 left in the first quarter, where he fell awkwardly and was eventually helped off the court.
Przybilla was averaging 4 points and 8 rebounds a game through Tuesday. The injury may cost him additional time next season as well.
In other news, Brandon Roy sat out Wednesday night's game in San Antonio after he suffered a strained left shoulder in the same game Przybilla went down in. The Blazers were already granted a 16th roster spot to compensate for their previous losses. Roy is questionable for the Christmas night game vs. the Denver Nuggets.
