Washington Times to become a free newspaper

OK, not entirely (Cropped from a June 2006 front page)
Almost 30 years after it was founded by Unification Church officials, the Washington Times will become mostly a free newspaper with a strong online presence that will have a focus on national politics and cultural issues rather than a full-fledged attempt at competing with the Washington Post.
It hasn't been confirmed, but the Washington Post says it's likely the Times will be dropping much of its local coverage, sports news, and features. At least 40 percent of its staff will be laid off.
Despite its bias, the paper was considered important in conservative circles --perhaps because of its bias. However, the paper never managed to reach a mass audience (which apparently isn't that conservative), and the church, which has lost around $2 billion on the venture since 1982, said it had to cut back expenses.
Wait, I thought newspapers only folded because they were too liberal?
The good news: Politicians who used to buy the paper will no longer be able to use it as a tax deduction... at our expense.

The Wash Post will be next to go.
As Burgess Meredith said in "Grumpy Old Men": You can wish in one hand and crap in the other and at the end of the day see what you end up with more of.
Wishful thinking John, but not the reality. But you're free not to buy the Post. That's the best you can do.
