Near the edge (gunowners.org)
"Special 'wellness and prevention' programs (inserted by Section 1001 of the bill as part of a new Section 2717 in the Public Health Services Act) would allow the government to offer lower premiums to employers who bribe their employees to live healthier lifestyles -- and nothing within the bill would prohibit rabidly anti-gun HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius from decreeing that 'no guns' is somehow healthier."
"Section 2717 section creates guidelines for insurers to report on initiatives that improve quality of care and health outcomes, and it specifically lists what types of programs would be involved - such as smoking cessation, physical fitness, nutrition, heart disease prevention. There is no mention of guns, and there is no language that could result in higher premiums for gun owners or lower premiums for people who do not own guns."

Of course, all this increased spending -- and taxes -- means that you will have less money to spend on pursuing your real passions: like providing for your family and purchasing guns and ammunition!

And then there are these people, who say the NRA isn't pro-gun enough may say stupid things. Then again, when someone says, "You can take my gun from my cold dead hands," health care suddenly becomes kind of a moot point.

Sounds to me like you love the ObamaNation...
Page 958 in the Senate Bill there is a provision that allows gun owners to trade in their first born child (if old enough to serve in the Army) in exchange for a gun license...Then each child you turn in after that, you can own the gun of your choice semi or fully automatic as long as it's a military approved weapon...
What were they thinking...Must have been inserted to the bill by a republican when the democrats were not paying attention...
Must be a way to increase troops strength, since Obama will be committing tens of thousands of more troops to Afghanistan...
There's no pretense to real argument in those kinds of wild statements. That's nothing more or less than blatant appeal to fear, in order to mobilize people on the basis of knee-jerk emotion. It's a pretty obvious and shallow use of propaganda tactics, but it's what the right wing's been doing throughout the health care reform debate.
I expect better of the NRA and they (used to) have and use rational argumentation to make their points. I prefer that side of the organization. In today's climate, though, they have thrown in their cards with GOP policy and are using the same frenetic playbook to echo the same message. Feh.
And I say that as a gun owner and supporter (in principle) of the NRA.
Correction: misread that. Glad to see it's not the NRA making such claims (though they're doing some other fear-mongering of the same tone). This whole "be very afraid" approach is getting old.
Next week I will sign the Brady Bunch Bill.

Ditto with the Tommy Lee Jones pic?
You don't get to claim "fair use" when you're making money at it.
Figures a "progressive" would have no respect for property rights.
Hey Wonderboy. I have a big gun. I do whatever I want
Yeah but Brucie isn't a "progressive" he be a populist or a member of the whig party or something like that.
How could all those fat arse, alcoholic, sedentry liberal politicians be for health care reform after reading Section 2717. I mean remember Ted Kennedy was so pro health care reform. Let's face it Teddy wasn't the most svelte figure around and he probably imbibed with a good stiff drink every now and then. I'm thinking a lot of these fatty out of shape politicians could set a good example by picking up trash on roadsides in the DC area to work of those ugly love handles.
Let us not sink to the level of insulting the overweight.
Gun Owners of America? Is that like an NRA cover band?
Obviously you haven't seen Rush lately he's a lean mean machine.
I have a body made for radio.
"Let us not sink to the level of insulting the overweight."
How about the toothless?
Leave my listeners out of this discussion.
Hey Wondering, maybe you should file a frivolous lawsuit. That's usually what crybabies do when they're offended. In fact, I notice you stole my screen name without giving credit. You'll be hearing from my attorneys.
Well at least Rush wasn't canned.
Eeeeewwwwwwwww! Canned Rush.
"Leave my listeners out of this discussion."
That would be the brain dead
At least Rush has listeners that's more than you can say for libtard radio shock jocks who broadcast in miniscule markets.
"At least Rush has listeners that's more than you can say for libtard radio shock jocks who broadcast in miniscule markets."
Ooo, you really got everyone with that little snark!
To quote another neanderthal from earlier: "WAH WAH WAH"
Hello,
I have something to say. You mentioned something about how the bill was passed under Obama to have gun rights expanded.....
1. Give credit to where credit is due, if you are excited for it, then let me remind you that the republicans brilliantly threw that into a meticulous bill right before voting on it.
2. Don't give this as evidence to support your anti-america rant. We all know that if this was during the Bush regime you would probably be blogging about how stupid it was to have it expanded. And so on and so on.
God bless the USA. (Oh, and the last decade has proven that when guns go up, crime goes down). Research for yourself.
America says: "Give credit to where credit is due, if you are excited for it, then let me remind you that the republicans brilliantly threw that into a meticulous bill right before voting on it."
And that's how lawmaking works. Politicians are always slipping their smaller personal issues into larger measures. That's how GrammLeach passed. Obama signed the bill no questions asked. Give credit where it's due.
"Don't give this as evidence to support your anti-america rant."
Suggesting that people who don't agree with you are anti-American is stupid. Disagreement is wholly American.
"We all know that if this was during the Bush regime you would probably be blogging about how stupid it was to have it expanded."
You don't know jack. I support gun ownership and the Supreme Court's recent 2nd Amendment ruling. Do I think you need a loaded concealed in a national park? No, but I don't define everything through my politics. Sometimes, a law is just a law. Get over yourself.
Health care reform WILL STEAL ALL YOUR WHITE WOMEN!
If health care reform outlaws guns, only reformed health care outlaws will have guns.
If health care had been reformed during the Vietnam war then the pilonidal cyst on my arse would not have prevented my dodging the draft.
You can pry health care reform from my cold dead fingers.
"You can pry health care reform from my cold dead fingers."
Because then I won't need it!
Tommy Jones looks like he just got through hearing a libtard give his reasons for approving of obummer-care, either that or he's listening to one of Brucie's old radio shows.
