Boehner: Raise retirement age to 70

Populist Examiner
House Minority Leader John Boehner has finally proposed a policy idea.
The man known for spewing talking points said in an interview with the Pittsburg Tribune-Review, that we have to increase the retirement age as one way to deal with the looming Social Security crisis.
"We're all living a lot longer than anyone ever expected, and I think raising the retirement age," said Boehner, "and eventually getting the retirement age to 70 is a step that needs to be taken."
Lawmakers in France recently announced plans to raise the retirement age from 60 to 62, and they were faced with death threats. (British lawmakers have also announced plans to raise the retirement age, though only one year at a time for now.)
Newsweek noted: "In the face of plenty of demagoguing by both parties on deficits, Boehner's stark statement is a welcome one It's a real policy suggestion, and it's one that conveys to voters that they can't get something for nothing: deficit reduction is going to be painful."
Should Boehner's suggestion actually turn into a piece of legislation, it will likely spark a big fight between parties in Congress. Newsweek reports that liberal think-tankers have already expressed concern for such a proposal: Blue-collar workers, who work primarily with their hands, they argue, would bear the brunt of an increase because they lose the ability to work at a younger age than white-collar workers.
Should the retirement age be raised to 70?

Why do we make everything so difficult?
Prior to 1996 - the tax structure was such that Social Security income was taxed at such a level that few continued to work full time and draw a SS check.
Simply repeal the 1996 Right to Work Act. Get some folks to actually retire or increase tax revenue from those continuing to work and draw SS.
In my opinion, if some of the folks double dipping would go ahead and retire that would significantly stimulate the economy by opening up more jobs.
I cannot fathom why in this economic debacle that this has not already been done.
Hmmmm looks like the Portland, Oregon police dept. have reopened the case on pervert Al Gore.

Don;t be so ignorant! Bruce said it was all garbage! He knows more than the police OR the masseuse about what happened.
Will Bruce cover the Black Panther voter intimidation case now with all the new evidence of racial corrupt politics in the Obama/Holder justice dept? Bartle Bull said it was to "maximize votes".
Or is it not a national story? It has many many implications.
Can I dress all in black and carry a weapon and call black voters naggers and prevent some from entering the polling place?
It is apparently not enough to prove voter intimidation for this regime! Or will it be race based and I will get arrested and charged?
Maybe Beck was right.
"Say what?" what a coincidence, I brought up the Black Panther Thug case, and the anti-white racism demonstrated by the Obongo Administration yesterday in Brucie's article about Kagan, and Brucie's response was it was "bulls**t."
So, the Black Panther story was "bulls**t", Hassan is a terrorist was "bulls**t", Times Square bomber involved with terrorists was "bulls**t", the 15 year old Mexican that was killed was innocent, the Goreoper story is "bulls**t".
What kind of batting average is that?
When Obama adviser Jeffry Imelt criticizes Obama you know he is in deep deep trouble!
"Mr Immelt also had harsh words for Barack Obama, US president, lamenting what he called a terrible national mood and expressing concern that over-regulation in response to the global financial crisis would damp a tepid US economic recovery. Business did not like the US president, and the president did not like business, he said, making a point of praising Angela Merkel, Germanys chancellor, for her defence of German industry.
People are in a really bad mood [in the US], Mr Immelt said. We [the US] are a pathetic exporter...we have to become an industrial powerhouse again but you dont do this when government and entrepreneurs are not in synch.
Thus the distraction of the Boehner story.
Just sayin... says: When Obama adviser Jeffry Imelt criticizes Obama you know he is in deep deep trouble!
This is the problem I have with partisan fear-mongering. You make a statement like that and then quote the article. What does it MEAN he's in trouble. Why does that mean he's in trouble. And why is GE downplaying the statements of Mr. Immelt? Why aren't you mentioning the complete story instead of the half that makes you feel better about your political beliefs?
Say what? says: Will Bruce cover the Black Panther voter intimidation case now with all the new evidence of racial corrupt politics in the Obama/Holder justice dept?
What evidence? The claims of a single lawyer writing an essay at Pajamas Media? What evidence does he present that can hold up in a court of law? He claims "example after example." He cites two, both of which are matters of legal interpretation, not fact. Had the Supreme Court decided 9-0 in the New Haven firefighter case, you might have more wiggle room, but that was a 5-4 decision --hardly a consensus. If Mr. Adams thinks he has a case, he should file suit against the DOJ in federal court and prove it. In fact, if he had real evidence, he would've done so. He didn't. Why not? Is it because he has none? Can you answer these questions? Where is his evidence?

Until you correctly and fairly describe what I write, I'll answer that question. You never do. You almost never give an accurate accounting of anything you post here. You're good at finger-pointing but not fact-checking. If you stopped doing one and were better at the other, you wouldn't have even made the above allegations. They are embarrassingly inaccurate and total mischaracterizations of what I've written.
Metaphorical translation: You've yet to prove you can even throw a baseball.
Buried deep in the sands of hope! says: Don;t be so ignorant! Bruce said it was all garbage!
I don't know if you are a liar but you are utterly wrong because this statement is definitely a falsehood. I said the woman's story was baloney BEFORE the police announced they were re-opening the investigation. Now that they have, let's see what develops. Or how about this: Show me where I said the story was garbage AFTER the police re-opened the investigation. Can you? My guess is, not only won't you be able to prove that, you won't even respond to this post. The only way you can is to answer my question, and the only way to answer my question is to prove where I said what you claim I said. Show me where. Stop mischaracterizing the facts.

of course you can...do us a favor and give us a heads up so we can videotape it...I hear tv shows pay good money for funniest videos.
"Boehner: Raise retirement age to 70"
uh oh, that's going to really screw up Gigi's plans...she's going to have to keep making fries for extra years.
Everyone who read this page know what you wrote about all those. I need not defend anything. You wrote them, I didn't.
You've been wrong on each one!
Bruce says: What evidence? The claims of a single lawyer writing an essay at Pajamas Media?
Um...evidence is a matter for the court. There is ample evidence that Mr Christian is an upstanding attorney and his credentials are impeccable. Evidence so far has been suppressed by the corrupt Holder Justice Department. The accusation of Perez lying under oath is not something Mr Christian would throw out there without regard to the truth.
Bartel Bull is not lying, he saw it with his own eyes.
But just as your instinct has failed you multiple times it fails you here as well.

Let me translate: What Say What is really saying is that he can't prove his allegations. Or he's too lazy to go look for the evidence, or he knows if he goes looking for it, he won't find it. So, Say What, you're either fraudulent or lazy, which is it? If you're going to make accusations, back it up. I can assure you, that anyone who looks up the articles will find that you are wrong. Would you care to make a personal wager that you're allegations are false? Come, let's see how much you're willing to be accountable and responsible for your words. I am; are you?

You presume that I've drawn conclusions on his accusations; I haven't. Anyone can say anything in the public square, but not in court. This lawyer knows he can't take the DOJ to court unless he has the evidence to file charges. Why hasn't he done that? I DON'T CARE if he's right or wrong until he can prove it where it matters: In court.
"But just as your instinct has failed you multiple times it fails you here as well."
--See my post below: I'm still waiting for you to back this up. So far, you haven't. That's because you can't. Again, anyone can saying anything in the public square. You prove it daily.
I bet you didn't believe Monica either!

I talked to Isakoff when the story broke. I saw his notes (now archived at the Newseum in Washington, D-C). It was his story. Newsweek shelved it and Drudge picked it up from Lucien Goldberg who'd been coaxing Linda Tripp to tape her conversations with Monica. Goldberg and Tripp worked in the Nixon White House, so they knew something about bugging phone calls. I saw Isakoff's evidence; it was solid. But he never once accused Bill Clinton of anything. He let his facts tell the story. Mr. Christian could have done the same thing, but he would've had to vet his story much more carefully with a real reporter like Isakoff. Instead, he went to a blog where vetting isn't required. Will that topple the DOJ? At this juncture, it doesn't seem likely, but if he's correct, fine; punish them. The difference between us is that I favor punishing the DOJ if they broke the law; you just want to punish them because they're Democrats.
Don't sweat it "Say what?" you can PROVIDE EVIDENCE all day & half the night, and brucie will feign disbelief, criticize the source, or his latest rebuttal technique just deleting your comment. Like you said anyone who reads this blog knows exactly what was said or not said.

Spoken like a true sycophant. Care to place a wager one that evidence? I'll put my money up against yours. How much. Make the bet, then prove that "say what" is correct. Can you back up your claim with more than just rhetoric? I doubt you have the courage.
I once shot a sycophant in my pajamas.
What it was doing in my pajamas, I'll never know.
It's amazing that so many people are unaware that SS is not related to the Federal deficit. It is not funded through the budget; and it presently has a SURPLUS on the books. The corporatists continue to try to scare people about SS in order to justify a move toward privatization (stealing the funds and dumping them into the stock market).
Shame on those who fall for such highbrow BS!
No..just don't give OUR SS Money to ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS.....DUHHHHHH
We need to cut all Government benefit. All they want to do is takefrom the American and give to other. I hope they all lose there jobs. They need to see what they are doing to the American. They set in office and don't know care what they do to us. All they care about is the money they make and the money the lobbists can give them. I say get them out of office. We don't need all of them in office taking all our money. Telling us we need this and that are they going to taxes us. WE should get to VOTE for what they get and do. See how they feel
Why do you want to raise the retirement age when BIG Companies are forcing the older people to retire before 65. Most of the big companies need the extra money to cover the large bonuses they give upper management or for CEO buy outs. I would say that most of these people that have been forced to take retirement earlier than 65 really did not want to take it at that time. Between out sourcing, management bonuses and getting rid of the high paid long time employees some people have no other choice but to take the retirement. Then after they retire they have to look for a part time job to help out financially. The days of the private owned companies looking out for the employees is over. Now it is how much the big executives can shove in their pockets and forget the people that actually make the product.
First, illegal workers don't GET social security, they PAY IN.
Secondly, Social Security is not a "handout." Workers and employers have paid in equally during the worker's career or self-employment. It's the original 401K. For years the government has "borrowed" from the Social Security fund. Now those "loans" are coming due.
And finally, President Obama is doing a great job in the face of an unimaginable flood of $*@%^ left by 30 years of Republican (including Clinton) mismanagement and agenda to erase the middle class. In the process they damn near erased the entire country. Except, of course, the big corporations and the rich.
