Believe it or not, men are nearly as likely as women to say they enjoy cooking a great deal, according to the Pew Research Center. About the same percentage of men (32%) and women (35%) say they fall into that category.
It wasn't always like that. Back in 1989, women (39%) were more likely than men (25%) to admit to liking cooking much.
Perhaps the rise of cooking as a competitive sport (think Iron Chef and Top Chef) may have drawn men into the kitchen to face the heat. Bobby Flay and Emeril Lagasse are among many cooks who have made clear cooking doesn't somehow emasculate you. It's also a way to express yourself when you want to kick it up a notch.
Add to that the proliferation of high-status gadgets like espresso machines with charcoal filtration and programmable shot volume and it's not surprising that men are increasingly being drawn into cooking. They like their toys.
Whether you're cooking this Thanksgiving or not, hope you all enjoy this year's turkey, tofurkey, or turducken.
