Britney Spears picks Kristinia DeBarge for fall tour opener

Kristinia DeBarge to tour with Britney Spears in the fall

Yesterday Britney Spears and company announced the opening acts for her upcoming North American fall tour.  There were no surprises at the announcement of Ciara who recently opened Brit's London shows but the addition of Kristinia DeBarge was.

The 19 year old newcomer to the pop music scene has already watched her catchy debut single "Goodbye" hit the top 20 on iTunes Top Songs and Bilboard's Hot 100 singles.  The single samples Steam's 1969 hit "Na Na Hey Hey Kiss Him Goodbye" and is used in a Nivea commercial.  Kristinia says she has wanted to sing since she was 3 but only confessed her desire to her father 7 years ago at age 12.  "He wanted me to be a doctor or lawyer," she said. "I tried to be open to other careers because I didn't want to disappoint him but my heart was set on singing."

Through her father's long standing R&B career as the keyboardist of the group DeBarge she met Babyface (Kenneth Edmonds) and they began working together.  They have since landed a deal with Island/Def Jam Records and her Debut LP entitled Exposed is slated to be released in just over a month on July 28th.

"Joining Britney Spears for her Circus tour will be an amazing and surreal experience for me," Kristinia said in a statement posted on Spears' site. "I have been dreaming of an opportunity like this forever, and can't wait."

Britney's tour opens in Hamilton, Ontario on August 20th if you want to catch Kristinia live.
