This year was a very sad time for all who loved, admired, and respected Michael Jackson. However, it has also been a time of triumphs for the King of Pop. He was at the top of the charts with his albums, had a worldwide hit documentary, This Is It, and companion album, therefore it is no wonder why he would be the top searched topic on Yahoo of 2009. Twilight and everything related to the franchise came in second to only Michael Jackson.
According to crn.com, "Yahoo said Michael Jackson's death broke many records on Yahoo! including the single most streamed event in Yahoo!'s history, with five million total streams." They also report, "Yahoo! said the popularity of the 'Twilight' franchise surged with with every 'Twilight' book, DVD, and soundtrack release. Yahoo! attributed a good deal of the Twilight searches to the insatiable appetite of Twilight fans, known as 'Twilighters,' for every bit of cast gossip."
With the wildly popular second film of the franchise, The Twilight Saga: New Moon, it is evident that 2010 will be another big year for Twilight searches as The Twilight Saga: Eclipse will be released in June.
