With each new installment in 'The Twilight Saga', the momentum continually builds as evidenved by the latest film of the franchise, 'The Twilight Saga: New Moon'. According to reports, the very successful and lucrative 'Twilight' film's box office record is being destroyed by 'New Moon.'
According to Hot Fix via TwilightSource, “After making another $14.3 million on Wednesday for a new U.S. total of $179 million, the question isn’t whether it will hit the $250 million mark it’s whether it can hit $300 million. Considering the first “Twilight” made only $192 million a year ago that would be a stunning achievement. The Chris Weitz blockbuster hardly skipped a beat leaving the frame’s three new wide releases far behind.”
Since New Moon is proving to be even more successful than the first film, wouldn't it make sense to believe that 'The Twilight Saga: Eclipse' will do just that - eclipse the New Moon film in earnings? The momentum, and the fans wanting to see what will happen next is setting up the third film to be perhaps even more successful of the three films.

Right now, New Moon has a 4.5 imdb rating whereas Twilight has 5.9. Not a HUGE difference, but if fans ultimately decide that the quality of the second film was not up to par with the first, and that the movie was a bit of a disappointment, they might be hesitant to spend the money to see a third not knowing whether or not it will deliver the experience they are hoping for.
There will be an awful lot of pressure on David Slade, massive boots to fill after Chris Weitz did an amazing job. I just hope he doesnt loose sight of the romance and spend too much on the dark side of the fights. Eclipse is all about the love. Thats what brings us into the cinema and read these books. Will it beat New Moon who knows? Im excited to watch it so will be first in the queue to buy my advanced ticket.
Ashley - I disagree... Most fans LOVE this movie, it's all the other people who hate it and are rating it a 1(And if you read the boards there are many who haven't even seen the movie voting a 1 because they hate all the Twilight media). Weitz did a perfect job with the emotions/love story...which is why the true fans love it! I think Eclipse has the potential to be the best movie in the series if done right
