Larry King show to end after 25 years, nearly 50,000 interviews -- Piers Morgan to step in?

Larry King has decided to end his nighly show after twenty-five years and nearly 50,000 interviews conducted. The news has been confirmed via an official statement released by King. The decision comes after speculation as to whether King was to end his show sometime soon.

According to Us Magazine, King has said in his statement: "I'm looking forward to the future and what my next chapter will bring, but for now it's time to hang up my nightly suspenders."

CNN said of the news: "Larry King defined the art of the television interview. Having conducted nearly 50,000 interviews over 50-plus years in broadcasting, Larry deserves to take some time for himself and his family."

King recently held a star-studded telethon to raise money for the BP oil spill and actually raised -- along with many stars -- $1.8 million dollars. King has been behind some of the most famous interviews over the last couple of decades.

As Radar Online reports, Piers Morgan may be the replacement for King. A source said to the media outlet: "CNN has made it clear to Piers that he is the network’s first choice to replace Larry. He is very, very close to agreeing to terms.” For weeks, Morgan has been in the news, since he was the focus of the rumors as to whether Larry King would leave the show, and Morgan would step in. Now that the news of King's departure has been confirmed, it would seem that the America's Got Talent judge is on the top of the list to join in at CNN.
