From the moment that the former American Idol finalist Adam Lambert gave his audition for the show, the nation was captivated. When Lambert stepped on stage for the first time during the show after Hollywood week - fans and viewers alike knew that he was something special. It was hard to think of anyone other than Lambert winning the competition - not only because of his voice, but because of his ability to take a song, make it his own, and be brilliant with it. A new article by HispanicBusiness.com discusses the past week of American Idol, and how Lambert has had a lasting impact on his fans, comparing this current week on Idol to last year when Lambert wowed on the show with his pick.
This week's theme on Idol was the Rolling Stones. Joshua Molina points out with his article that Lambert mesmerized with his Rolling Stones pick last year: "The Top 12 American Idol contestants sang Stones' songs last night to mixed reviews. But a year ago around this time Adam Lambert was impressing the judges with his version of "Satisfaction."
Adam Lambert's performance was vintage Lambert, vocal muscle, dynamic stage presence, and an energy around him that filled the room with excitement."
Watch Adam Lambert sing "Satisfaction":
This new season of Idol has some fantastic talent. But there is no doubt that Adam Lambert has indeed raised the bar for all contestants. Of course, any future winner will excell in whatever genre he/she chooses. But do you think this season will be harder due to the amount of talent from the prior season of the show?
Based on the current contestants, who do you think has a chance to win American Idol this year?

sorry, but I can't watch Idol this year, Adam has spoiled me ....I now follow his budding career. Love the man, love the music!
Frankly I don't think this season has much talent at all. The trick to judge the real talent is not to become vested in the show. Then you can objectively listen. I've caught portions of season 9 here and there. Nothing to keep me tuning in. I'll tune in when they have Adam Lambert on but that's about the extent of my viewership. Adam was exciting he kept you guessing. He looked and sounded different show to song. He was exciting!
I don't know if it will be harder for season 9 and future contestants, but it sure is hard for us viewers. I'm going to start calling American Idol, "American snoozefest."
Talent like Adam Lambert only comes once in a few decades. It's too bad for the talented contestants to have to be compare to Adam. Adam never belonged on this amateur stage, he's a highly trained and seasoned performer who needed to be discovered long time ago. Having said that, I'm glad AI gave him a platform to be discovered. He's well on his way to superstardom, leaving this stage in the dust.
Thanks for recognizing Adam's incredible talent and have three nice quality videos that brought tears of joy.... GLAMBERT FOR LIFE
While I am thankful that American Idol provided a platform for fabulous and talented Adam, it is too painful for me to watch anymore. I can not stop thinking about Adam and how much he deserved to win this.
I am finding it difficult to enjoy this season of idol. Every one seems mediocre compared to Adam and that's just my opinion. I will be a fan of Adam for life but probably not AI.
Adam is a once-in-a-life time star. This Old Bird has not seen or heard any one like him since Elvis.
Just like everyone else that commented, I can't get into Idol this year. Adam has spoiled me forever. His talent far exceeds anything I've seen on Idol before or after him. I agree with Cindy that it was wonderful that Idol gave him platform to be discovered. I'm so happy for his success to this point and look forward to seeing what he will dazzle us with (as he always does) in the future. I hope he becomes the international superstar that his talent warrants. As far as who will win Idol this year -- sorry but I don't really have any vested interest this year.
I believe Adam has definatly raised the bar. I mean talent like his is hard to find. Ever since he took the stage idol has never been the same for me, and I've watched from the very begining. Anymore it's just plain boring.
I love Adam Lambert!!!!!!!!! My 2 favs from this season are siobhan magnus and aaron kelly:)
I agree. It's painful to watch this season. There is no one in Adam's class and probably won't be for many years. I know Adam will be appearing on AI--That one I'll watch.
"From day one" (as Randy Johnson used to say) we all knew this guy was one of a kind. A voice like that along with his incredible stage presence makes everyone else look and sound mediocre.
Sorry, I meant Randy Jackson.
Adam Lambert fans are waiting for his return to the show this season. That night will be epic, and a full circle moment. There is raw talent this year and there will be a winner, but we were spoiled to here a super-talented singer last year. Idol found it's ultimate world idol in Adam Lambert.
I had never been a fan of anybody in my life until I watched Adam on Idol. Love his vocal and stage presence.
Adam raised the bar too high and now I can't even get interested in watching season 9. All others look like amateurs compared to Adam. He is definitely the most incredible talent I've ever seen.
I cant get into Idol this season and do not care at all who wins. Seeing them on 'Adam's Stage' walking down Adam's staircase...that venue just serves to remind me of Adam...it will NEVER be the same. He is the most incredible performer, singer, and PERSON. Bye Idol !
To me there was ONE ULTIMATE Idol and that Adam Lambert. I don't even want to watch American Idol any more - I'm just not interested any more.
Adam set the bar SO SO HIGH. Now, I'm just interested in him and his brilliant talent and I'm great follower of his and will continue to be.
LOVE ADAM!!!!
Yes, Adam Lambert did set the bar (too high) for future contestants... includes this season! Maybe that's why I'm not that into this season. Maybe I just hope to see someone who can WOW me like Adam Lambert could every single week last year on AI. I'll support Adam Lambert all the way... Go Adam!
Oh how I hate to add to the chorus of "Adam Lambert ruined American Idol for me, even if in a good way..." but alas, I have to, I simply have to. With the potential-filled Lilly Scot gone from AI9, I think Crystal Bowersox will actually impress, even if only in a quieter way. Magnus will stay right up there with her, as Michael Lynche may too... but none of them will impress as much as Lambert did. And the word used above, and in various articles elsewhere, that has stuck with me is "EXCITMENT". No contestant this season, even those with much vocal prowess, will excite the audience to the point of pure addiction as Lambert did, IMO. One blogger elsewhere said that Lambert raised the bar so high that he broke it, funny and true all at the same time. But part of the magic of AI season 8 was also the winner and other contestants IMO. Allison Iraheta is amazing I think, and Kris Allen, Matt G., even Gokey and some others in the top 10, but especially the AI8 top 5, were very talented!
The show is not exciting at all without Adam. Some of the contestants have good voices but they're lacking any spark. I miss Adam's voice and stage presence.
I agree that this year just hasn't compared to last year overall, much less to Adam Lambert. He is one in a kazillion. Talent like that just comes around once every 15-25 years. However, I've always loved AI and I continue to watch. It is, of course, not mesmerizing this year, like last year, but I want to continue to loyally support it. I will be forever grateful to AI that it provided the perfect platform to introduce Adam to the world. And it will never be the same, as his song goes, move over, there's a new boy calling our na-a-a-a-a-me!! Of course, I'm a total Adam fan, but I thought last year on an overall basis, was the best year ever. I got attached to all the kids and went to the Idol tour last year for the first time. Again, my focus was on Adam, but I thought there was so much talent last year, and have really enjoyed seeing last year's contestants appear this year. And I loved David Cook's performance last night, too!! This year, for me, it's mainly Siobhan.
I am waiting for Adam to come on the show...cause he is fab. and very talented..Only Elvis gave me the thrill in music that Adam is giving for this generation....I watched idol twice and this week I did enjoy Casey's singing, but no superstar like Adam...Watched last night and what is this Kesha suppose to be...I think her songs are dumb...Orthiano was good, not great but good...Like her video better...than in person....Come back Adam and start touring so we can go to a concert of you only...Seen you last year in K.C....Go Adam.....
I agree with the Cindys well-written comments. The reality show has a goal to discover a superstar and sell large quantities of advertisement dollars. It took eight seasons to finally reach its goal with finalist Adam Lambert to find a superstar and rack in huge ad dollars. Adam brought to the show excitement week to week keeping me fascinated for months. It is difficult to invest viewing time this Season 9, except when they announce the date Adam will appear. I do want the show to continue its superstar search, but I hope they find a better voting method.
Just have to chime in and SAY to "Colleen @ 5:34pm" - very well said! She said "...Seeing them on 'Adam's Stage' walking down Adam's staircase...that venue just serves to remind me of Adam..." Yes indeed Colleen, well put. For me, the whole venue serves only to remind me of the incredible Adam Lambert. I had the chance a few months back to watch Fox Reality's rebroadcast of AI Season 8 - and what Lambert did on that show was truly stunning - a magnificent mini body of work that will stand the test of time within the Idol bubble. And outside of the Idol bubble, his performances since, especially live ones, have been captivating. As I said before, he has caused true addiction for so many.
Old Bird- How could you miss Freddie Mercury in the 70's-80's. He was the # 1 singer, songwriter of my life.He played brilliant piano and some guitar. His music is hard to sing, but Adam did it.Queen showed up to play on AI and Adam sang We are the Champions. Queen asked him to tour. Check out how huge Adam is in Singapore & Japan,Austrailia while touring there. Then he goes to Germany & France. He better do the U S before I get any older.
Oh, seeing that clip of Adam singing "Satisfaction" brought home great memories! There is no one close to him on the current show (or a lot of places). I agree, not only did he set the bar, but he broke it! No point in trying to get over what is no longer there. Excitement, spark and energy along with terrific talent are just missing this season....I miss my weekly Adam fix! What a talent he is! :)
Never watched IDOL until a friend showed me the Mad World performance last year on Youtube. There were only four shows left at that time, but I watched in amazement when I tuned in on Rock night. What? Is this guy for real? Then I watched all the performances on Youtube and was just blown away. Unbelievable talent. I tried to watch one episode this year. Love Crystal. Siobahn is interesting. But, really, there is no point to watching. I was never watching "IDOL" last year to see the show. The show WAS Adam. I will check the results when the show is over and see who won in May. Oh, but the night Adam returns to "HIS" stage, I will also tune in. As soon as concert tickets go on sale, I am there.
Of course Adam is one of the few contestants who really set the standard high, with the likes of Underwood, Daughtry, etc. He's my favorite contestant they ever had and frankly I doubt any will top him. I quit watching the show until he came on, thinking Idol had a bit of hope yet. But just watching snippets of this season, I see that it does not and needs to be over with soon. Alas, Adam, likely the last idol to spark any kind of real attention. Viva Glambert!
Yes I agree Adam set the bar very high and this year is less exciting. I think Crystal has the best shot at this for AI9.
I am watching this year but not voting - I'm just not committed or moved to - Even in season 7 I at least called once for the best performance - season 8 I called for Adam (alot) and Kris and Allison - this year I just don't 'care' enough to make the effort - I DVR and watch the performaces another night - I will watch LIVE when Adam is on though.
You know what I hate? When Adam does return to Idol, will he only sing ONE song? God, would someone give this guy a show of his own? One song will not be enough of Adam Lambert, not for me, or for any of his fans. The concert in Indio was epic, in the true sense of that overused word. Check this out- Youtube: Acoustic WLL Improved Version Fantasy Springs
For someone like Adam Lambert to be discovered in my lifetime is an honor, for American Idol to be the platform is both a blessing and a curse, my favorite show has now lost its exictement,Adam has passed through and we will never be the same.In the words of 'Paula' never in the history of idol was there someone so comfortable on stage',he is the 'it' factor that trancends beyond his incredible vocals to his whole persona and sex appeal that trancends gender and age,it mesmirizes and sucks you in and his zealous fans will attest to their undying loyalty.Granted they are some good singers but the 'it' factor is missing,it is impossible to attain ,it took 8 seasons to discover Adam Lambert, Simon realized this and has i'm sure it played a major part in his decision to resign.
Can't wait to see Adam's appearance and susequent tour.
AI did find the one. And oh boy can not wait for him to reappear on the show. Wishing for more than one song. I am already trying to figure out what it will be. Adam is it. Can not get enough. Next album please. More Music. More Adam. He just makes you happy and yes colors my world!
I found MY American Idol - ADAM!!!
I have quit watching! The show holds no interest for me anymore. I have been so bored with everything I have watched this year, unlike last year where ADAM caught my attention in his 1st. audition. He won me over from day one. I WILL watch again ONLY when ADAM is performing.
Adam Lambert is a genuinely exciting entertainer. There is only one American Idol that ever got me obsessed with seeing his performance and Adam Lambert is the one. I still watch Admerican Idol 8 w Queen on youtube and all his songs on tour Whole Lotta Love, Bowie medley etc. Seeing him perform live on stage- magnificent.Yes, he raised the bar too high for others.
Adam is the best they ever had. It is a shame the little creep from Arkansas stole his title with the help of AT&T.
Wow Vicki, that was uncalled for. Kris did not do anything wrong, he was just a contestant, same as Adam. If people want to believe conspiracies, so be it. Just remember, they were two boys on a show and had no control of what the PUBLIC decided to do. The only people the voters have to blame, if they did not like the out come, are themselves. I did not vote, because I did not care who won. I think they are equally talented in completely different ways. I cannot wait for their tours and next albums! XD
In regards to s9: the bar did get set rather high by s8 and even by a bit of s7. I have been re-watching s8 and there are a few big differences:
*experience/training - s8 has a lot of this, top 3: all 10+ years
*nerves - s8, whole group [13], are most comfortable performing on stage
*attitude - s8, especially Kradison & Gokey, are positive & want to be there
*camaraderie - s8 = family, s9 = everyone for themselves
I have the feeling if s8 did not exist, s9 would have been ok.
While Adam was best of show, it seems like he's now lowered the bar post idol. His singing has been so bad that they wouldn't have given him a golden ticket had they heard him that way to begin with. Also the condescending idea that every one is now taking a lead from Adam is laughable. If you want to take that snobby attitude we might as well say Kelly Clarkson set the bar even higher on season 1 since she's a better vocalist. Funny how time (or 8 years) can erase every ones selective memories.
I also forgot to mention his post idol choreography where he had some guy pretend to suck his sausage while another dancer pretended to finger him wasn't so clever...
you're absolutely right, not only he was one of a kind Idol, he is one of a kind artist with mad talent and creativity, never I was so excited before waiting for a show to start as when Adam was on the show, what an entertainer!!!!!
Bringing back memories. :) ?????
Yes, Adam has ruined American Idol for me I needed a breather the other night, after watching American Idol, and put my Adam Lambert AI Experience DVD in and watched him make history with all his season 8 performances. This morning I watched his Tokyo, morning performance, of "For You Entertainment" and it sounded so good I thought "maybe he is lip syncing" but then as Adam frequently does, when he performs, he changed it up. His voice is very impressive! And his album is doing great around the world!
I read somewhere that Kelly Clarkson may be a mentor on AI this season. While I like Kelly I think it would be GENIUS to have ADAM as a mentor as is evidenced by last season on AI. The contestants watched & learned from ADAM. That's why they were all so seasoned on stage ... ADAM also helped them with his input on song choice and stage presence. The top 10 were each good on the Idol tour and the 'family' feeling that was felt by all of them set them apart from all other seasons. As Scott McIntyre said 'AI would not have been as much fun if ADAM had not been a part of it'. All the contestants had great things to say about ADAM ... so I think ADAM should be asked to be a mentor. This year's group would greatly BENEFIT from his critique & assistance!!!
Wow NotASheep hate much? Why did you even read this article? Try getting your facts straight next time before posting!

Besides all this B.S. people are writing. Get a grip, Adam is filthy rich from all he has done after AI. No hater can change the fact that he has a fantastic instrument, and voice too!
Oh and yes this season stinks because Adam was the best to ever be on that show. Why do you think Simon is retiring?
I m through with Idol. There will be no one like Adam in this century!
yeah season 7 (the 2 davids)and season 8(def.lambert, allen and gokey, even allison) had talent that stood out this year, not so much, I gotta say lambert kept it interesting with wardrobe and song!
