Goodbye Mike O'Meara.
It is finally here. The last day for "Radio God" Mike O'Meara on WJFK.
Today at 3PM, Mike said goodbye to his listeners for about 20 minutes and ended -- very appropriately -- with the song below.
Mike introduced his farewell announcing the message had been prerecorded before the team left for vacation on Thursday, July 2nd. As he said he did not want to "preside over his own funeral" and chose not to perform a live show.
From his goodbye recording:
We are done at WJFK. It has been a nice little run for us...
We really felt we were hitting our stride...
Unfortunately in my over 20-year career in radio, this has never happened before.
... As best I can tell you, we are going to be working behind-the-scenes to find a new home for the Mike O'Meara Show...
It is very very frustrating and because of that we are all going to take a breather and reevaluate.
...I move forward and I really do believe that things do happen for a reason.
His message was classy and considerate. You can listen to it at WJFK.com under the podcast title: "07-17-09 Seg 01-Best Of-So Long".
You can keep up with where they will land on Facebook or here.

I loved the Mike O'Meara Show out here in Spokane, WA. I really hope they find another home and that it's broadcast online so that I can listen!! Good luck Mike & company!!!!
Good riddance!
Mike and crew compose the best radio out there! Their humor, intelligence and capacity to adapt and change is to be admired. Their too talented not to surface again and we'll anxiously await ...WJFK's loss, someone else to gain..and hopefully sooner than later!
Mike and friends have been a part of my family's life for more than 20 years. My son streams the show on his computer at UVA. WJFK has kept me company on my 40+ minute commute mornings and evenings for many years. We are not sports fans and are looking forward to finding Mike on another frequency very soon. As a 50+ female I realize that I have never been a part of their target demo. Just the same, Mike o'Meara makes me laugh, and I have appreciated the less acerbic tone of the new show. I also enjoed Mike's role as the grand old man encouraging the younger talent at the station. Loved the dysfunctional family marathon as well as Mike's appearances on Big O & Dukes' Snack segments. We thought WJFK was heading towards market dominance, with O'Meara's humor and sensibilities leading the way. This is a sad day for the DC radio market if there is not a home for The Mike O'Meara Show out there.
I listen to TMOS via podcast everyday in Albuquerque, NM. I grew up in the Metro area and started listening to the D&M show in 1993. Mike, Robb, Buzz, BA, Katie and even Joe please get back on the air soon!
When Don left the show got worse, adding Buzz and rob to the line up as every minute contributors detracted from the show.
Long time listener - miss you guyz's big time and what not. Come back!
I will miss you all and I know you will be in a much better place when it is all said and done. God speed my freinds, It has been a rough year lost my older brother during Gay Pride so I was unable to give you my best effort for that event. I will also reinvent and bring something better to the plate Love and Light HomoJoe
Robb, come over so I can show you my other breast! -- BA
I was on vacation last week only to return and find that Mike and the gang are no longer on air. That sucks! To those corporate suits, that makes the decisions, what a dumb decision on your part! I find it hard to believe that Mike's show wasn't making the station any money! I've listened to your station for as many years as Don and Mike and then Mike and the gang has been on it. As for now, unless you bring back their program....I won't be listening to your station anymore. To Mike and the gang, hurry back to the airwaves soon....you're sorely missed.
What a bunch of ass hats to drop a show that made you laugh. Way to go CBS! Wouldn't be listening to the replacement show. I get enough of sports before and after Mike and the gang came on. Mike, I will hear you somewhere next year.
After Don Geronimo left, the show got really boring. It was only a matter of time before it would be put out of it's misery. The show lost me as a listener and probably a lot more people too. No great loss.
well the last reason to listen to 106.7 is now gone. How much longer to another format flip? If 99.1 is any indication, about 6 months to another house cleaning.
Why can't Don and Mike get back together and just start another show, perhaps called, "THE MIKE AND DON SHOW?
I think things would return to normal if DON were to return to radio. Having me back on wouldn't hurt. I think I still have some cds left on my website.
I really miss those guys.

i'm gonna miss you guys so much.i too,was on vacation when the bomb dropped.i love sports, but i agree that you need variety in life.you all made my afternoon workdays just fly by.thanks mike, robb, buzz and the whole o'meara radio family. hope to hear you on the airways soon.good luck to all of you.and to all those asshats that say good riddance,f-you and your whole family, you miserable bastards.
I loved the show, i listened to Don and Mike for a long time and continue to listen to Mike,Buzz and Rob everyday. I will miss the show, but look forward to find them on the radio soon. I will not listen to "the fan".
thanks CBS for taking the best thing about your station off.
I dont know what I am going to do without Mike and the gang. You were all such a big part of my life. You were kinda like family. I had the best part of my day in listening to the show and being able to just let all the crap of bad days at work fade away. I actually cried a little hearing the farwell tape and as soon as it ended I took WJFK off my radio dial. The powers that be at CBS clearly have their collective heads up their @$$'s. Hope you all find a new radio home soon. Love you and miss you all.
Bet this will work out GREAT for WJFK!! Dump the shows with the most loyal listeners, totally change genres in a downturn, pick the cheesiest least original intros you could possibly create - this kind of self destructive behavior needs medication.
106.7 just left my presets!
dumbasses - expect another "tectonic shift"in programming within 9 mo.
This sucks ass. I am tired of sports and rightwing radio. Hope to hear you soon. Good luck to all.
Sad to see it gone. It was the one thing I looked forward too on my hour long drive home.
Yup, even in 'Hooterville, NV' we listened to the D & M show, followed by Mike and team. I thought the show got only better when Mike took over. Don was too dominant when he ran things. I'm in sales and on the road constantly and listened to the show every minute I was in the car. I will deeply miss my friends on the show and hope they find a new home much sooner than later. Good luck to WJFK (or not!).
Mike never failed to make me laugh on my ride home. He shared his life with all of us too, good and bad and I will always love that about him. You will be missed greatly.
The Last good radio show is gone. I'll be listening to my CDs until The Omeara team resurfaces at another location. JFK really blew it this time
I am in shock... I feel, i believe, as many others, having spent nearly 10 years listening to D&M and then Mike and always Rob and Buzz... even though they wouldn't know me from adam, they were a big part of my life. I feel as if a friend just died. I'll survive, but it will be a sad existence. I feel like digging a hole and sitting in it until nature takes it's course. And LaVar? Really... Really? I like you, but you don't see me playing football do you? Stick to what you know. I'm starting to lose faith. What soul-less, pencil pushing farnsworth came up with this format. Penny more a year worth this? Let me give one bit of advice... you keep humping that american dream and it'll eventually get sore and donkey punch you. Then what do you have? 106.7 off the dial for me. God speed Mike and gang. Will keep my eye out for you.
If the junk in your trunk smells like a skunk, it's an oopsie! 106.7 "THE FAN" blew this one!
uhhhgg!! Like we all needed another sports talk show. I'm really bummed. I'll have to head down to "Hank's look around cafe" and raise a glass to one of the best shows on radio. Sigh...
Sucks, missed the last week and started freaking out when I turned on the radio Monday. 15 years of my favorite radio show off the air. Come back soon Mike!!
Idiots...Mike's show was the best thing that station had going. Now we get to hear some mindless brain-dead ex football player attempt to sound as if he does not have a mouth full of marbles. Even Big O and Dukes were split apart. At least the new station lives up to its name...the fan definitely blows.
what the hell, good god mike had the best numbers in his slot, the junkies had the best numbers in they're slot and big o & dukes had at least one of the best numbers in they're slot, what the hell makes you break that up for mindless dribble. the 2 i feel the most for are chad dukes and drab t shirt they get to sit there with lavar arrington, they should play river or life with his playing career, or his personal life, either way i choose river just like I'm sure most ppl will. i can only hope that cbs realizes the huge mistake they made by taking the last bastion of hope for talk radio and replace it with another sports talk station, i know they all talked sports but by handcuffing the junkies and chad to just sports makes them one dimensional and they have so much more to offer. mike when you come back (and i know you will) give chad, Oscar and drab a jobs so that abortion of a show, the arrington show will have to move on with out they're great talent, which they have handcuffed.
Common people... 20 years is a long run, even MASH had to end eventually the stick was getting old and the very smart and bright people at CBS play the Mike Ohmara show backwards and forwards and it must have really sounded bad to them... those people are geniouses and know more about radio than the Gods they hired. Lavar is a comic genious and all those hits to the head have loosened his funny bone so expect a lot of crazy football banter and maybe you too can learn to appreciate the benefits of a three point stance and that you can stick some really fun things into players jockstraps... Cheer up Washington this is the new format to pull us out of the malaise the whole country is suffering... obviously CBS identified Mike's show as the culprit to everything bad going on today... geniouses at CBS corporate! give em all a 250K bonus!!!
Thank God!! Mike O'Meara was only moderately more tolerable than Don was. This will be the best thing to happen to DC Radio since the Greaseman was fired! Don, Buzz, Joe, and Rob just accept your time is over! You are washed up!! Beth Anne give me a call sometime!
I am besides myself is there not enough sports talk radio in the country, What the heck. I have been depressed since I have found out about the whole thing. Have you checked your dial lately, there was no better at what they did and I hope we get the boys back soon.
Now what will I listen to on my commute from Reston VA to Frederick MD (1:10 on a good day, 2:00 + on a bad). The Mike O'Meara Show (and Don and Mike prior to that) always made it enjoyable. Hope to see it back on somewhere...soon.
This sucks guys. ROBOT...
What's left... Phil Hendries? They forced him into political talk to keep him on the Air. Everyone that wants a PC world... Are you happy now? That bulls&$% and the poor economy has all of these Nazi's out there happy.
Jesus, at least its a sports station now and not another hip-hop one. However, both talk about demeaning women, illegal activities and promote a poor lifestyles to the masses. I guess they can make more money this way and sleep better .
I am so sad that I can't listen to Mike and the guys anymore. I have been listening to them since they were on WAVA...20 years ago. Miss you guys...find a new home so you can make us laugh soon!!
I just found out today about this story, it breaks my heart to hear about it. But the sadly the writing was on the wall. Mike and the gang are in a dying industry, with ad revenues off due to the economy and consumers having a lot less disposable income I think radio stations are a lot less inclined to take chances with on-air personalities. Add to that Mike and the rest of gangs salarys and what they ended up with was a double edged sword.
I wish Mike, Buzz, Rob, Beth Ann, Joe & Katie all the best, really gonna miss ya.
Wow, I can't believe it. I can't believe I don't have the option of much needed humor on my drive home anymore, even with the poor signal where I live. I used to pull over on the Eastern Shore side of the Bay Bridge, just to listen. Those days are over, as are my my days listening to JFK. I really didn't care much for the rest of the line up, but Mike O'Meara and Co. were regional treasures. JFK, you lost another listener. Well done!
Is WJFK ****ing crazy. This was the only station I listened to for years. Junkies are ok, O and Dukes were awesome and The O'Meara show kicked ass. Thanks for years of great radio Mike. I hope The Fan goes belly up.
The Mike O'Meara Show made my brutal drive home tolerable, and made me laugh. Now what am I going to do?
I just removed 106.7 "The Fan" from my radio pre-set. CBS and the sell-out "Sports Junkies and Brad Dukes" CAN GO TO HELL!
I have listened to Don and Mike since the WAVA days back in the 80's. They made many a long commute enjoyable (as much as sitting in traffic can be :). I was sad when Don left but wished him the best and hopes he finds some peace. Of course we still had Mike to listen to and I thought he did a great job. It's a sad day that they are no longer. I am sad I didn't get to hear their goodbye. I pray for all of them they find a better station that respects what they offer their listeners. I have removed 106.7 from my preset stations on my radio. I wish them all the best life has to offer.
I was introduced to Don and Mike by my younger s.o. and have been hooked ever since. I'm happy to say that I enjoyed the singular pleasure of falling in love with Mike, Buzz, Rob and company when Don retired. I have listened everyday and even sat in my car at times till 7:00 because I just couldn't turn it off and had to wait for Buzz final news. And yes, there are times I have listened to the replay. I loved the last show which was brilliantly and lovingly done; and which, to me, is just further proof as to why CBS is filled with complete idiots for letting them go. The only reason I ever listened to the other shows even the few times that I did was because Mike and Buzz endorsed them with such brotherly enthusiasm. Like many other fans, this station has been out of my presets since the final show aired. I am waiting patiently as Mike and the team await their new and better home. I will be there! By the by, the celebrity I most resemble is a Ashanti.
Mmmmaah! Love Ya Boys!
Ahoy.
I hated him everytime I tuned in but I tuned in everyday.
Way to much talent for this show to slip through the cracks. Theres gotta be an intelligent exec out there somewhere who has a clue....i guess that is if the guys want to mess with all the b.s. again. But something tells me they would, for the millions of FANS!!
And what the hell did my station in wichita replace mike with?? No clue who these ass-hats are but i seriously think i could come up with a better show than this crap...long live tom gavin!!!
wlfk i hope you bastards fail and fail well. am radio is full of i hate liberals shows and sports talk. two basic formats that say the same effing thing over and over. where's the funny??????? sirius here i come.
So what the hell happend to the show? Did they just cancel it?
Must be someone in the background like the program on the 30 Rock Series where upper management makes a wise move to put fireworks on in the middle of Manhatten. BAD MOVE!!!!
Heck, I am a Mormon housewife and even I loved Mike and the guys.......
I loved Most of the humor and seriously, I just loved hearing them crack up....I'm sad
