ABC’s The Bachelor star Jake Pavelka certainly did not come off smelling like roses after choosing the season’s villain Vienna Girardi during the finale.

In fact, he received a rather thorny response from the studio audience during his appearance on the after show, The Bachelor: On the Wings of Love—After the Final Rose. Spectators gave Pavelka and Girardi their due applause, but it hardly compared to the affectionate cheers bestowed upon jilted runner-up Tenley Molzahn.

Pavelka defended his decision to host Chris Harrison, frequently flashing his compelling grin while he fished for support from the almost-all female audience. While onlookers tempered any disappointment with the requisite claps, their otherwise uncomfortable silence communicated plenty.

Things perked up, though, when Harrison announced the identity of the next Bachelorette. A beaming Ali Fedotowsky, who left the show so she would not be fired from her job back home, took the stage to a spirited ovation.

Fan favorite Fedotowsky marks the latest in a series of Bachelor and Bachelorette stars mined from seasons past. Clearly, recycling rejected contestants works, as the formula has brought ABC increased ratings in recent seasons. A built-in fan base certainly helps, as does selecting competitors sure to polarize viewers, like Geneva, Florida-native Girardi.

After the Final Rose also unveiled another reality TV surprise, revealing that Pavelka will compete on the upcoming season of Dancing with the Stars. The newly-engaged Bachelor star stated that fiancée Girardi will cheer for him from the front row, a tidbit that could not tie in more nicely for ABC if it planned it—which it quite probably did.

I now believe the show is a total fake and I feel "fished in." Vienna doesn't seem to have one redeeming quality. I am wondering if the contract required him to propose. Clearly he chose the girl he was the most physically attracted to. His family wasn't crazy about her. either. At least she toned down that garrish makeup for the "Final Rose" show. This season has proven that "normal" people don't look for love on a reality show!!

After watching this season, I remember why I stopped for a while a few seasons back. I'm sorry, but he picked the girl with the least everything - brains, beauty, maturity, and, if the rumors are true, morals. I'm off The Bachelor again, but I will watch the new Bachelorette. Go Ali!
