Here in Philadelphia we love our own, even if they've traded cheesesteaks and the Liberty Bell for Tinseltown. Last night at the 67th Golden Globe awards, Philadelphia native Kevin Bacon won  Best Performance by an Actor in a Mini-Series/Motion Picture Made for Television for HBO's "Taking Chance", a TV movie about a lieutenant who escorts the body of a fellow soldier who dies in the line of duty in Iraq to his hometown.

The Golden Globe award is Bacon's first actual Golden Globe win (he was nominated in 1995 for Best Supporting Actor in The River Wild) but not the 51-year-old actor's first win of of 2010;  he was also awarded the Joe Siegel Award from the Broadcast  Film Critic's Association last Friday for his charity web site, SixDegrees.org where people can easily donate to their favorite philanthropic causes. Bacon won up against Kenneth Branagh, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Jeremy Irons, and Brendan Gleeson, who also were nominated for their outstanding roles in TV productions.

His response to the win explained the feedback he's gotten from his role as Lt. Col. Michael Strobl, "I've had people come up to me and say, 'Hey, I loved you in that!' but this movie really seemed to reach out and touch so many people in a powerful way", Bacon said.

If you're unfamiliar with the powerful movie, "Taking Chance", view the trailer below.
