Finally, the legendary glove Michael Jackson once wore on his left hand while introducing us all to the moonwalk dance has a home. The rhinestone-studded glove was sold for $350,000 in an auction in Times Square yesterday. The first time we saw Michael Jackson wearing the flashy white glove was when it was worn during 1983's Motown TV. Its arrival further signified Jackson's status as a pop icon whose unique style and fashion mesmerized many.
The glove was sold to a the highest bidder, Hong Kong businessman, Hoffman Ma, who also must pay taxes and fees on the item bringing the total to $420,000. When asked about the amount for the "most expensive glove in the world", Ma replied, "It was a fairly good discount". It was originally thought to fetch for only $50,000.
There were other items formerly belonging to Jackson that were auctioned off at the Hard Rock Cafe in New York, one of which was a jacket worn during the "Bad" tour for $225,000. The jacket, like the glove, was predicted to earn far less than what the final bid ended up being; the original price the jacket was thought to be sold for was $8,000.
Until the auction, the glove had remained with Walter "Clyde" Orange of the singing group, The Commodores who had been given the glove by Jackson himself. Other high-profile celebrities' items were auctioned off as well and included Elvis Presley, Mariah Carey, and the Beatles ; however there is no doubt that the King of Pop's items were the most sought after commodities at the auction.
