Susan Boyle is extraordinary because she is so ordinary.
An overnight sensation, Susan Boyle has gained popularity in the course of hours through "Britain's Got Talent" and YouTube. The 47 year old unemployed Boyle belted out a fantastic rendition of the "Les Mis" classic, "I Dreamed a Dream." She shocked all three judges, most notably Simon Cowell.
While I'll be the first to admit her performances are stunning, I have to beg the question if they would be as moving if they came from the average "American Idol" contestant? Is Boyle's, down-to-earth appeal what makes us root for her?
At this point she says she has no plans for a Hollywood makeover, but if her success continues at this rate, it is bound to happen sooner or later. And when she is gussied up to the point where she looks like the Scottish Aretha Franklin, will her popularity still remain?
Everyone loves a good underdog story and she has captured our attention for the time being, but only time will tell if Susan Boyle will remain a household name or a fading viral video.

Susan makeover? No! Let's celebrate the woman and her amazing talent, not our obsession with beauty and celebrity.
