America's favorite daytime funny lady has offically quit her position as a judge on American idol. After only 1 year, Ellen has decided that American Idol simply doesn't fit in with who she is, and her hectic schedule. With Simon Cowell also off the show, the judging panel is left with just Randy Jackson and Kara Dioguardi. After the disappointment in ratings last year, American Idol's future is in serious jeopardy. Last year, the show failed to book major talent to appear on the show, and settled for less than stellar performances from acts like Miley Cyrus. The show failed to set their winners in high categories, and the entire cast of last season has yet to make a blip in the music industry. Below is a quote from Ellen.
A couple months ago, I let FOX and the "American Idol" producers know that this didn't feel like the right fit for me. I told them I wouldn't leave them in a bind and that I would hold off on doing anything until they were able to figure out where they wanted to take the panel next. It was a difficult decision to make, but my work schedule became more than I bargained for. I also realized this season that while I love discovering, supporting and nurturing young talent, it was hard for me to judge people and sometimes hurt their feelings. I loved the experience working on "Idol" and I am very grateful for the year I had. I am a huge fan of the show and will continue to be," Ellen is quoted saying about her departure from the show.

The show will continue without Ellen, but the direction it will take has yet to be announced. With X Factor debuting this year with Simon Cowell, American Idol will have serious competition. X Factor is a talent competion for singers, but allows them to step outside of the box a bit more. In England X Factor has brought many big names to the show, and given America Leona Lewis. American X Factor is rumored to have appearances from Lady Gaga to Britney Spears this coming season, both have appeared on the show overseas. X Factor features multi-talented artists, not just singers. X Factor will allow for a wider audience, and a higher status of celebrity appearances. It might be safe to say so long American Idol.
