Here's what next week's "American Idol" song choices should be

Matt Giraud should sing The Fray's "You Found Me"

The rumor on the "American Idol" front is that next week's theme is iTunes Top 100. If that's true, the show finally might feel like a fresh, young show instead of a Randy Travis/Smokey Robinson colonoscopy.

So here's what I think each person of the Top Nine should sing:

Matt Giraud. He should sing "You Found Me" by The Fray. And I think it should be only him and his piano. No backup. As the idol judges say, he could have a moment.

Adam Lambert. I have this strange fascination with guys covering girl songs, so I'd love to hear Adam do Kelly Clarkson's "My Life Would Suck Without You." It's rockish enough for him and if anyone can pull off a female to male transition, it's Adam.

Danny Gokey. Hokey Gokey should totally do "Don't Stop Believin'" by Journey. Yeah, I couldn't believe the 31-year-old song is on the Top 100 either. I think we have "The Sopranos" series finale to thank for that. Don't get me wrong, it's a great song, I'm just surprised, that's all. Anyway, Danny could pull this off and since he's as old-fashioned as the song, it could be a hit.

Kris Allen. Jason Mraz's "I'm Yours" would be perfectly suited for Kris' smooth voice. Though it might be time for him to speed things up a bit. He's cute as a button, but he's not very exciting. Maybe he should bust out with Lady Ga Ga's "Just Dance" instead.

Allison Iraheta. My pick for the next American Idol should sing "So What" from Pink. Allison can clearly "sing the phonebook" as people on Idol like to say every season, but Pink is right up her alley. I also almost picked "Hot and Cold" by Katy Perry, but I'm so tired of that song I changed my mind.

Lil Rounds. The judges keep nagging Lil for picking the wrong song, so this is her week to do the right thing. The right thing would be "Halo" by Beyonce. No ifs, ands or buts. But there is an or: "Single Ladies" by Beyonce. Now that could be fun.

Scott MacIntyre. I almost fell asleep trying to find a song for Scott, much like I do when he performs. Yeah, he's a snore. That's why I picked "Love Who You Love" by Rascal Flatts.

Anoop Desai. Again with the guys singing girl songs, I picked "Thinking of You" by Katy Perry. It's one of Perry's less edgy songs, so I think Anoop could put a soulful spin on it.

Megan Joy Corkery. This was a tough one. There aren't many of those artists she's trying to rip off currently on the Top 100. But I think she might actually be able to not massacre "Manhattan From the Sky" by Kate Voegele.

Surely I'll get at least one of these right. Right?

"if anyone can pull off a female to male transition" (re: Adam)

What does this mean? A joke? Really tasteless humor for sure.

It means that Adam is talented and much like David Cook from last season, he could take the most feminine song and turn it into his own.

If I was going to poke at Adam's sexuality, I would've said "male to female" you know, since he is a male and all.

Ah yes 'So What' for Allison Iraheta, I'd forgotten about that. Y'know, I've been wondering all season how she'd sound on that song, and now she actually has a chance to do it. I kinda hope she does cos I think she could totally kill it.

Danny must do "Don't Stop Believin" - I wrote to him to tell him that before I even knew the theme. He is made for that song - although he has to do the arrangement carefully because there are long instrumental breaks. Adam should do "Supermassive Black Hole"
