Annie Leibovitz - Photographer (Wikipedia)
Annie Leibovtiz, infamous celebrity photographer, (most recently in the headlines for shooting the controversial "topless" photo of Miley Cyrus) is in danger of losing copyright to her images, and possibly her entire life's work, if she doesn't pay back a $24 million dollar loan to Art Capital Group by Tuesday, or today. The lender sued Leibovtiz back in July 2009 claiming a breach of contract- an agreement which allowed Art Capital Group to act as the agent in the sale of her photography and real estate.
In February 2009, Leibovitz borrowed $15.5 million, having experienced financial troubles in the recent years. She not only put up several houses as collateral, but the rights to all of her photographs.
She began her career in 1970, working as a staff photographer for newly launched Rolling Stone Magazine. She left in 1983 for a job at Vanity Fair Magazine, where her career as a photographer blossomed to new heights. She's graced the headlines of many articles herself over the year, most of which are recent. In an event dubbed the Tiaragate Affair, The BBC misrepresented a portrait shooting by Leibovitz of Queen Elizabeth II back in 2007, which lead to a BBC scandal and a complete re-haul of ethics training.
Famous Leibovitz photographs include:
- John Lennon and Yoko Ono for the Jan. 22, 1981 Rolling Stone cover, shot the day of Lennon's death.
- David Cassidy on the Rolling Stone cover depicting him naked from his head to his waist.
- Brooke Shields, pregnant for the cover of Vogue in April 2003. This was the first image of a visibly pregnant woman on its cover.
- Michael Jackson twice for the cover of the Vanity Fair magazine.
Her current portfolio is estimated to be worth $40 million dollars.
