Former ESPN analyst Steve Phillips entered treatment for sex addiction Monday in an effort to save his marriage, according to his agent, Steve Lefkowitz.
Phillips was fired from ESPN Sunday evening after admitting to an affair with his 22-year-old co-worker, Brooke Hundley. His agent told the New York Daily News that "This was planned in advance. It has nothing to do with him getting fired. He's trying to save his marriage."
Hundley was also fired by ESPN on Sunday. Hundley had workes as a production assistant for ESPN remote games since September 2008.
After the affair ended in July, Hundley stalked and harassed Philllips' wife, Marni. She also attempted to befriend his son on Facebook. Marni Phillips as since filed for divorce.
Phillips had a six-year career ast the New York Mets general manager and has admitted to having an affair with a Mets' team employee in 1998.
Phillips entered an undisclosed rehab. His agent said his addiction was "the same thing as alcohol addiction."
The past few days have been "very tough," but the axed analyst is determined to get through it," his agent said. "He's trying to get better first."
