Ghostbusters 3? Looks that way.
Although it's been rumored that there is eventually going to be a third installment in the Ghostbusters series for a while, it's often been immediately shut down. Rumors of Bill Murray and Harold Ramis falling out after the completion of Groundhog Day were pretty prevalent, but now Sigourney Weaver has let some spoilers slip. There will be a third Ghostbusters and this time, Murray returns as a ghost.
Weaver, who is on tour promoting her new film Avatar, which arrives in theaters on Friday, had this to say about the new installment (Slash Film),
I’m afraid to say it [Ghostbusters 3] is happening, I hope people are excited about that. I don’t know if I’m going to be in it, I have had a couple of calls asking ‘would you read the script.’ I might be in it; I see nothing wrong with being in it, although I don’t think I will have a big part. I think Bill Murray has a little more to do with it - he’s a ghost.
The rest of the original cast is said to be returning except Rick Moranis, but I suppose no one will know for sure until they start actually filming. You can find more information on the upcoming film here.

I don't like where these rumors are leading. I hope GB3's writers are going to kill off Venkman with this movie. If that's where this is headed, I really don't think the writers should expect a whole lot of love from movie ticket buyers.
Sometimes you should let sleeping dogs lie.
Correction to the below: I hope GB3's writers are NOT going to kill off Venkman with this movie (sorry).
