Entertainment Weekly gets first ever video ad.

TV's and magazines and CBS, oh my!

CBS is installing its first ever video ad in one of the upcoming issues of Entertainment Weekly.  The magazine will come with a video player inside the magazine that will automatically start playing once the magazine is opened.  The ad will come in a heavy paper packaging, similar to greeting cards that make noises.

Once the video starts playing actors from CBS' show, "The Big Bang Theory," will give the reader instructions on how to navigate through all the clips.  As of now, the magazine including the video ad will only be sent to residents of NYC and Los Angeles and not every magazine will have one.  Obviously, quite pricey, this is just an experiment to see if this gimmick can boost ad sales.

According to The Huffington Post, "Ink-on-paper titles have been trying new formats to boost advertising revenue. Major newspapers have taken the once-taboo step of offering ads on their front pages, while magazines have tucked ads into cover flaps and even distributed video promotions on DVDs."

Built to last, the manufacturer, Americhip, Inc. fully expects the video player to withstand the bumps of standard mail delivery.

Even with all of the technological advances in the past few years, this amazes me the most.  We're actually inserting TV's into magazines.  I think it's safe to say we're officially living in the future.  Now, if we can just figure out how to get our cars to fly...
