Real men do wear pink. Especially when supporting a cause as important as Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Calling their campaign A Crucial Catch, NFL players and coaches are sporting pink on everything from helmets, to towels, to shoes, to the palms of their gloves. And it doesn't stop there. Referees are wearing pink wristbands, and fields and stadiums are adorned in pink as well.

Celebrities are also doing their part. Fergie, a successful solo artist and member of The Black Eyed Peas, has taped a PSA. A self-proclaimed Dolphins fan, she wears a pink NFL jersey and says:

"Between touring, spending time with my family, and watching football, I am a busy girl. But, I know how important it is to take time for an annual breast cancer screening. Make a crucial catch: get screened.Learn more at www.NFL.com/pink."

Everything the players wear during the Crucial Catch campaign will eventually be auctioned to further breast cancer research. In addition, apparel, special k-balls, and pink coins will also be auctioned off at NFL Auctions.

The money spent on “Pink” merchandise and products are not used for cancer treatment, survivor support, or research so it must be a feel good about yourself expense. It is interesting that we are thinking of the NFL players wearing pink as out of character. My initial reaction to seeing them wear the pink items was to believe that they were just doing a nice thing. Then someone pointed out to me something that I haden't thought about. They all have mothers, sisters, and daughters.
