Mad Men Season 4 premiere is a doozy (to use a phrase often thrown out there in the 60's) and the season promises a "deeper and darker look into the "soul of Don Draper", according to the Philadelphia Inquirer.
Last season on Mad Men, the four major players at the ad firm broke off to form their own agency. When Don Draper, the number one go to guy for advertising, starts a new agency there will need to be publicity with pictures and all. This will pose a problem for the high stakes Mad Men player.
Last time Draper had a picture posted in the paper, just a fraction his past caught up to him. This time we are promised Don's past to come barreling down on him from the new media clips from his agency. Mad Men mystery continues with Don's past, but not for long.
Throughout the Mad Men seasons, we have seen clips of what Draper's real past is about, it has never been woven together to make full sense, but this is going to change this season.
Don is newly divorced and living in a trendy apartment in Greenwich Village. Joan is back as the office manager for the new agency with her voluptuous shape, which is making a comeback due to her character. Joan has started a trend in real time 2010 with her tight dresses and large round backside. Mad Men fashions are already online and will be seen in stores this fall.
Mad Men's, Betty, who is seen partaking in a Thanksgiving dinner with her new in-laws may have some regrets, as it is not going in the direction she expected. Betty usually has everything perfect as evident in her cocktail parties and dinners from past seasons. Things move so fast on TV. It seems like it was just yesterday Betty was giving birth to the third Draper kid and she already has new in-laws.
There is also a dark side surfacing with Sally Draper, the oldest child of Don and Betty. Something is going on with this child, as seen on the season premiere. David Hiltbrand, form the Philadelphia Inquirer believes this child is unraveling like a "horror story" and he warns, "look out she's about to blow". He equates the build up to the movie "Carrie" around the is young girl.
Who is Don Draper going to end up with, or will he continue to bed down the upper part of Manhattan through out the 4th season? The women Draper has used for affairs are all so different, he does not have one "type" of women that he goes after. Each new choice has been a surprise, with more to come for sure. This guy is not going to change his appetite for women, it is part of who he is.
Connecticut was the bedroom community in the 60's for many of the family antics we see on Mad Men. The Mad Men worked in the city, but their homes were in the suburbs. The one car families of that era made the train the favorite mode of transportation to work and the platforms in stations like Milford, Bridgeport, and Westport were lined with these executives during the morning rush hour waiting to be carted off to NYC. The coast line from New Haven to New York was home to the high power players in the advertising business.
