The changing of the guard at BP is giving Tony Hayward "his life back" and putting a very dedicated American in his place, according to according to the website, Chron Energy. Robert Dudley, who grew up in Hattiesburg, Mississippi and spent his summers fishing along the Gulf, will be overseeing the oil spill clean up as CEO of BP,
Tony Hayward was criticized for his handling of the BP oil spill with saying things like, "I want my life back" to the media. He said this as thousands of fishermen, lobster men, and others who made their living in the oil soaked Gulf were in a financial crisis due to the spill. He was also seen at a sporting event for a weekend when the spill was not contained and people were working frantically to figure out a way to cap it.
Hayward was seen as someone who could not empathize with the people who were effected by this oil spill and the last thing BP wants is a CEO who seems unfazed by the oil spill events unfolding.
During the congressional panel set up by lawmakers to ask questions about the events leading up to the spill, he repeatedly told the panel that "I did not have any role in decisions about the well", which was a waste of time and money.
Dudley, on the other hand, is seen as a man with roots in the area of the spill and for all appearances should have more investment in getting this spill cleaned up and damages paid to those who lost out.
This was a good move on BP's part as far as PR goes. Will it make the clean-up and pay-outs go smoother? Only time will tell how Dudley will do in his new position.
