Precious movie theaters opening release date November 6, 2009 for some cities, later date for others

Like many others, this reporter went searching on Yahoo movies for Precious movie theater showings -- all set to text a friend to grab a showing of Precious the movie opening this weekend, Friday, November 6, 2009.

Lo and behold, however, the Precious movie does open in some movie theaters in a limited release today, Friday, November 6, 2009 -- if you're in cities like Chicago, for example, where there are tons of Precious movie showings at the Chatham 14 near 87th and the "Dan Ryan" -- no longer the "damn Ryan" after construction beautified it, heh?

But folks around the Cleveland-Akron, Ohio, area have to wait till Friday, November 20, 2009, to check out the Precious movie -- which doesn't hit the Valley View theater (love driving over that beautiful bridge on the way to church) two weeks from today, says Yahoo (just change the zip code to your own).

Folks in the Hollywood/Los Angeles,California, area have plenty of options to go see Precious today in a number of fabulous-sounding movie theaters, while people in the Sugar Land-Houston, Texas, area look like they have to wait till November 12 and 13th to check out the movie that's garnered so much Oscar buzz.

It's the same deal experienced with Chris Rock's "Good Hair" movie, which opened in limited release recently -- and as soon as I found it showing in a movie theater a few miles from me, I jumped at the chance of seeing.

Here's hoping for continued wide release of the reportedly fine film that has folks warning Mo'Nique to call a designer and get her Academy Award dress lined up.

I, too, went searching Yahoo for a place to see "Precious" in my area and no luck. I'm soooo disappointed. :(

I live in NYC and saw this powerful movie today at 11am. To my surprise it was a packed audience. I felt such a connection to Precious and just the reality of being in an abusive situation and feeling immobilized by the sheer terror that it renders to your heart, mind and body. Trauma and pain is an experience that we as human beings can relate to especially if you have some level of intimacy with your own. I planned to see this movie for my it is a part of personal journey to peace within. During the movie I cried because it reminded me of the emotional and sexual violence I endured as a child in a family that simply felt "entitled" to have whatever they wanted when they wanted at my grave expense. It was after the movie that something extradordinary happened to my body. It was an acknowledgement that I have NEVER given myself--the one of survival. I weeped so hard that I was ashamed to really let it all out. My body was hurting for it for the first time was allowed to feel the truth.

I'm ticked because I really wanted to go see this movie THIS weekend. I understood that it'd be shown across the country, not just in pre-selected cities! I'd love to know who made THAT decision!

I'm in the Phoenix area, and it's not playing around here. There are soooooo few movies I can even get excited about seeing anymore, and this was one I really looked forward to seeing. Now, I'm not sure I'm going to see it. I think I'd rather read the book.

I cannot find this movie in the Denver Colorado or the Aurora
Colorado locations, I am dissappointed and this is so unacceptable
and I'm not happy with it at all. This is just like Colorado to not
open up a black film that African Americans want to support.

It's cruel to produce a great movie, then go hyping up its Nov 6th release date and its potential for so many Oscars, only to have its actual release limited to a few scattered theaters. Boo. Hurry it up and get it into all theaters! This movie deserves to be seen!

I was one of those anxious individual awaiting the arrival of the Precious movie. Even drove to Valley View because it was listed as the only theater showing it..Even had show times listing...As requesting ticket for the movie I was surprised to be informed that it was not showing there.....Wow..I am not surprised they did the same thing with the movie El Cantante. Cleveland is so behind.

I am disappointed that Precious is not showing at all in Memphis, Tennessee. None of the trailers that I saw said that it would open in select cities only on Nov. 6. Why advertise such a powerful movie and then not inform people that they would have to wait 2 weeks to see the movie. I would have much rather waited 2 months to see Amelia or Coco Channel. Wake up Hollywood.

What the hell Nov 20th ? Damn I'm going to be watching New Moon all weekend why didn't they do it the week after ? Their dumb for putting it against that movie. Yes minorities will see Precious but I'm a minority and know lots who love Twilight. THIS SUCKS I'LL HAVE TO WATCH IT LATER after I get my New Moon fix. I'VE BEEN waiting for this damn movie because they said Nov 6th and now it's Nov 20th that's ridiculous.

I think movie was quite dark, shocking; yet captivating! Monique and all the cast members were superb! For those who are waiting to see it, just be patient because it is DEFINITELY worth the wait! You will not be disappointed. I will urge parents to NOT bring your children to this movie due to the extreme strong content. Please review other blogs and read the synopsis to determine what you deem appropriate. I believe the movie may be healing and an eye opener for viewers! I will also suggest to PREORDER your tickets because the movie sold out in the few theaters in Atlanta. There were lines of people waiting, so you may want to pre-purchase your tickets by going to the theater ahead of time, online or calling. A $1 fee per ticket normally applies for online or called-in orders.

Ok everybody I am with you...I wanted to see it on the 12 for my anniversary but when i found the only four theaters in Florida playing it, I was mad to find out the 20th is the real date. So maybe it's a black thing maybe it's not.....but remember, Oprah got on this project so it could go into the movie theaters at all. Which was not it's original destination...so still go see it whatever date it comes out and prove hollywood wrong AGAIN, just like we did for tyler perry....cause they still don't believe!

I just wish they would stop with these different dates for each area. I keep hearing Nov 20th but when I look it up under the theaters where I live I see no date at all and no incomining information on it. It really is frustrating. they say it only made 2 million during its first week well I wonder why, They really shouldnt of played this game at all either they want people to see their movie or they dont. Oprah and tyler both have enough clout to get this thing well enough on its way. But I know what will happen they will lose some of their sales to black market because best believe they will make sure it is available to the people.....
