Amazon.com changes $139 and $189 Kindle ship date from August 27th to September 4th -- for certain customers
Amazon.com will ship sold out new Kindle priced at $139 and the Kindle priced at $189 to customers "on or before September 4th," say the latest online reports.
"Customers who placed an order before 8 pm PST on August 1st, their Kindles will still ship by the August 27th release date," wrote Drew Herdener, Director of Communications at Amazon.com in an email to this reporter.
The $379-priced Kindles are in stock and shipping immediately -- and customers who don't want to wait are buying them.
Although Amazon.com had initially reported an August 27th ship date for the hot-selling Kindles -- that date has now been updated.
"The new Kindle and Kindle Wi-Fi are now available for pre-order at www.amazon.com/kindle and they will ship to customers in late August," wrote Amazon.com on their associates blog -- subtitled 'The official blog of the Amazon Associates program' -- as early as July 30th.
But that was before the cheaper-priced $139 and $189 Kindles pre-orders sold out in 5 days, leaving hungry customers grabbing for all the lesser-priced Kindle info they could get their hands on.
As thin as a pencil and able to store up to 3,500 books -- customers are going head over heels over the new Kindle -- not just book lovers, but no doubt college-bound students as well, looking to lighten their backpacks:

I think you've got it all wrong. People who DID pre-order when it said it would ship by Aug 27th WILL have them ship Aug 27th. Only people who waited and ordered later will receive them later. They did not "change" the ship date for anyone.
Wrong!! Kindle is out of stock even before release and 4th September ship date is for orders placed during the out-of-stock period. I placed order when new kindle was annoucned and my ship date is still August 27th.
"As thin as a pencil and able to store up to 30,000 books".
Might want to proof things like this before you publish. The new Kindle has an estimated 3,500 book capacity.
It's exactly what Cathy said. People who pre-ordered a Kindle after it became out-of-stock (5 days afterit was announced) are the ones who'll get it on Sept 4th. Anyone who ordered it whilst it was still "in stock" should still receive them around Aug 27th.
It gets weirder. When I ordered my new Kindle the delivery date was still August 27. I was so happy to have ordered early! The next day, when I checked my order online in "my account," the ship date had changed to <unknown and they'll let me know> status. Dang!
Do you have any evidence to support the statements in the article that the Kindle ship date has changed?
Saying: "But that was before the cheaper-priced $139 and $189 Kindles pre-orders sold out in 5 days, leaving hungry customers grabbing for all the lesser-priced Kindle info they could get their hands on."
Is vague as best, and could imply that anyone who ordered the Kindle, even when the ship date was Aug 27th, will be waiting until Sept.
It's a minor issue, but it's the whole point of the article. Why write it without actually describing the source of your information so we can evaluate your logic for ourselves.

it is ____, feels like betrayed. it said on or before 4 Sept when I clicked order
can,
You should completely ignore those delivery estimates. They are wrong - many customers have experienced this same problem where the delivery dates were in October, but after contacting Amazon they've assured us that, in your case, you'll get it on or before Sept 4th. It's a glitch.
