Alexa lists new 10 hottest pop-culture products according to Amazon.com
An interesting new feature appeared on Alexa.com -- an Amazon.com company -- the website that keeps folks up to date with the most buzzing news, updated every 5 minutes by telling its users the particular URLs across the web according to their Alexa toolbar data and statistics.
On Friday, a new feature appeared above the hottest web pages feature on Alexa, normally a feature that lists perhaps 20 or so hot pages across the web during the beginning of each day, then swells to nearly 200 hot web pages that in some ways has grown to be a better source of the hottest news trends than Google Trends' list -- which has famously been cut from 100 items down to 40 down to 20 in recent months.
The new feature on Alexa is titled "Hot Products: Products that people are coveting right now..." and it gives us a peek into the Top 10 products people are going ga-ga over, and thusly, a peek into pop culture trends.
The cool thing about having a concise list of the top 10 online products people are buzzing about is Alexa's association with Amazon.com -- and the fact that Amazon breaks down their bestselling products into categories on their own site, but Alexa's version of Amazon's top 10 products is a comprehensive list of the top 10 all in one place.
Here are the top 10 hottest products Alexa lists as of this writing (it's already changing with products flipping around since the time I began writing) and what that means in terms of pop culture trends:
1. Kindle Wireless Reading Device (6" Display, Global Wireless, Latest Generation)
People who want a Kindle want the latest one -- perhaps in time for great beach reads.
2. Fraggle Rock: Complete Series Collection
Aww...don't you remember watching Fraggle Rock? That's what I said to myself upon seeing this trending Thursday.
3. Transformers 2 Movie Mini Vehicle Multipack #2
One customer writes how much her son loves the toys.
4. Blacklisted by History: The Untold Story of Senator Joe McCarthy and His Fight Again...
Controversial book that Publisher's Weekly reviews negatively while Ann Coulter has a differing view.
5. Banzai Wipeout Curve Water Park
Mixed reviews, but still moms are probably doing anything to get those kids out of her hair during the summer months and into some backyard fun -- the same way "The Beaver's" mom was always shooing him outside.
6. Learned to Surf
It's a free Mp3 download song by Superchunk -- and people like free stuff.
7. MiVizu Black iPhone 4G Skin Case for iPhone 4 / 4th Generation compatible with 16GB ...
"Even the Apple store didn't even carry cases for the iPhone 4 before it was released," explains one user claiming a perfect fit for the new and popular iPhone 4 that sold out quickly after it was released.
8. Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief [Blu-ray] (2010)
Based on a popular book about a boy with ADHD and dyslexia.
9. The Last Hero: A Life of Henry Aaron [Hardcover]
Who couldn't love the man who I spent so many afternoons forced to watch since my granddad loved baseball? Wasn't Hank Aaron the one who also pointed to the stands a la Babe Ruth, telling the crowd where his home run hit would land?
10. Canon Rebel XS 10.1MP Digital SLR Camera with EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Lens (Black)
"A beautiful experience" one customer calls this camera and its corresponding lens, and the 238 mostly positive reviews tell the tale.
