'Alice In Wonderland' is going from theaters to dvd within the next 90 days. Disney plans to release their latest blockbuster so quickly that it is causing a major stir between Hollywood studios and movie theater owners world wide.
Theater owners fear that if Disney is permitted to release the 'Alice In Wonderland' film to dvd so soon that all other studios will follow suit ,causing the theaters and their owners to take a major hit in the amount of tickets that they sell. Theater owner also fear that more and more movie goers will for go the hyped up theater experience to wait out the dvd release and watch the movies in the comfort and privacy of their own homes.
Disney's Alice and Wonderland has made over $400 million dollars worldwide in less than two weeks in the theaters.

I like the idea of releasing the DVD quickly. Economically, it makes sense for Disney -- as they say, the DVD may not need as much in terms of promotion costs because the film will be fresh in the minds of consumers. And for theater owners, they get the benefit of having screens open for new product. And for the consumer, they get to have the home video in swift order. Everyone wins.
