Last night, Lady Gaga was interviewed on Larry King Live and spoke about her connection to Michael Jackson. Dressed in suspenders and a tie mimicking Larry King, Gaga revealed for the first time that she was slated as the opening act for Michael Jackson's This Is It concert tour to take place in the summer of 2009 before the singer tragically died.
“I was actually asked to open for Michael on his tour and we were going to open for him at the O2 and we were working on making it happen. There was some talk about the openers doing duets with Michael onstage. But Michael Jackson's death was devastating for me regardless of whether I was supposed to go on tour with him.”
Gaga, aged 24, says she has disturbing dreams about death which transfers to her stage performance. She admits she has a fascination with death from watching legendary stars who have met a tragic demise, "whether self-destroyed or destroyed by the media".
Lady Gaga's 2008 hit "Just Dance" virtually saved the singer's life. She had experienced a string of rejections from record labels telling her she was a freak and not pretty or skinny enough to be a pop star. Her luck finally changed with the success of "Just Dance." When asked what she would be doing if she wasn't in show business, she replied, "I would be dead."
Regarding her outrageous fashion and concert performances, Lady Gaga replies, "I am show business." She hints she is following in the footsteps of Michael Jackson recalling that when Jackson was being wheeled off from his tragic burn accident in the 80s, "he held his glitter glove up high above his head to wave to his fans because he was show business."
Lady Gaga recently performed at Carnegie Hall for a benefit concert for the Rainforest Fund's 21st Birthday Celebration alongside superstars Bruce Springsteen, Sting and Elton John. Her Dad must have been extra proud since he used to perform in a Bruce Springsteen cover band when he was younger.
