While BP CEO Tony Hayward spend much of his time stonewalling members of the US House Energy Panel during evasive testimony today, his remarks about the Deepwater Horizon’s Blowout preventer may be the most telling piece of information we've had, regarding the worst oil spill in history.
Committee Chairman Bart Stupack referenced documents that showed there were “260 different errors” in the design of the BOP. According to Stupak, “BP asked for modifications” that they were warned against by engineers. The modifications “reduced the built in redundancy of the blowout preventer,” and raise the risk of failure.
Hayward said he “didn’t know anything about that,” and repeated, “The blowout preventer is designed to be the ultimate fail-safe mechanism,” adding that the Deepwater Horizon blowout preventer was “rated to operate under 15,000 PSI” (pounds per square inch) of pressure.
With the estimated pressure in the well now thought to be much higher than 15,000 PSI, the blowout preventer with BP’s requested modifications never had a chance of preventing a blowout.
Industry expert Matthew Simmons of the Ocean Energy Institute said, "The pressure had to be around 60 PSI.”
Throughout his testimony, Hayward gave assurances that the relief wells, which are expected to be completed in August, "will permanently halt the well flow.” However, Simmons disagrees with that statement as well.
“The guy is basically lying,” he said. Adding that Hayward is aware of another problem that he is not willing to admit.
According to Simons, “There is no casing left in the well bore...so there is zero chance of the relief wells working.”
Relief wells are designed to pierce the casing so cement can be injected to seal the hole.
“This is an open hole,” Simmons said, “There is nothing to pierce. The only way to stop this thing is a low level nuclear weapon. It’s the only solution.”

Shame on you Rachael Maddow the oil industry is not to blame just the bad apple BP. When BP is ended as a company then we will be safe again. The Russians have capped similar blowouts with nuclear charges and Nick Pozzi and USA have cleaned up similar spills with a fleet of super tankers. Those spills included skimming surface oil and undersea oil plumes and bottom lakes of oil. BP and Obama rejected the proven technology of using a fleet of super tankers for cleanup because they had a deal to use toxic chemical dispersants to hide the enemy oil. This is part of their new tech clean technology they are promoting. Why aren't the cleanup workers wearing hazmat suits to protect them from toxic chemicals? Why haven't you talked with Matt Simmons and Nick Pozzi founder of Wow Energy Solutions that have worked successfully for the oil industry? Why do you keep blaming the oil industry for BP's criminal activities? Why has Obama left the criminal BP in charge of the cleanup?

Billy....name another person or organization that can do what BP does. the military? no, they don't drill for oil. the government? no, they don't either. the ceo of BP and the company of BP is the only entity in the gulf of mexico that has the access to the equipment. sucky as it is....the entire thing is in their hands.
Ira Leifer (in 2nd video) hits the nail on the head. IF THE TECHNOLOGY EXISTS, and the oil companies don't possess it, WHY isn't B.O.'s admin. contracting with the companies WHO MAKE THE TECHNOLOGY!? ANSWER: Because B.O. DOESN'T WANT TO SOLVE THIS; he will use the "POLITICAL CAPITAL" to pass Cap 'n Tax!
according to Barron's,
"...Simmons has a 4,000-share short sale on BP that he picked up when the stock hit $37. That’s in addition to a prior 4,000-share short sale he made at $48 a couple weeks prior. “It’s going to zero,” he says of BP stock. Mind you, Simmons has an interest and a deep investment in moving beyond fossil fuels."
The Barron's article went on to note that Simmon's Ocean Energy Institute, a renewable energy think-tank and venture capital fund he started in 2007, is involved in a project to develop off-shore wind power facilities and other alternative energies.
If Barron's assertion is true, it would appear that Simmons, an energy industry veteran and expert on "peak oil", could have had a serious conflict of interest when he went onto so many TV and magazine interviews talking his book about BP and the Gulf oil spill.
It suck and could be the end of the world as we know it. If a small nuclear wepon would close the hole good. Turn it over to the miltary and lets do it. The gulf is already dead any where close to the leak. And then kick bp and all the rest of the people drilling in the gulf out. Sorry they are coasting us more now then they would if they were not their at all.
I am amazed to see one blogger to blame the oil leak on Sarah Palin. Some are so filled with hate they can't think straight anymore. Hey blogger, Sarah Palin did not drill that well, ok?
What is more amazing is that this may be what A.A. Allen saw in his "Vision of America" given to him on July 4th, 1954. In that vision he literally sees the 'state of liberty' in the Gulf of Mexico on her knees gasphing for breath. Before you mock and scoff, read the 'vision' just google "AA Allen Vision of America"
