MoveOn.org has organized a massive nationwide boycott against Target Corporation, after pro gay rights groups accused them of "trying to subvert the will of the people," and "buy elections" by donating $150,000 to Minnesota gubernatorial candidate Tom Emmer, who is openly against gay and lesbian rights for same sex marriage.
A Supreme Court decision handed down earlier this year, allows corporations world-wide to limitless contributions to American election campaigns. The ruling on Citizen's United v. Federal Election Commission now classifies corporate entities as ‘people.’ But the freedom to donate at will is beginning to show signs of backlash against corporate contributors.
Target Corporation apologized to angry pro gay rights groups on Thursday night, after a petition with 250,000 signatures was presented at the retailer’s Minneapolis headquarters, according to CNN.
"We remain fully committed to fostering an environment that supports and respects the rights and beliefs of all individuals," a target executive said.
However, Target Corporation’s generous support for Republican candidate Emmer says otherwise, the gay and lesbian community claims.
Under the Supreme Court ruling, corporations must publicly disclose which candidates they are giving money to. The National Rifle Association lobbied Congress and was granted an exception to that rule in June, 2010.

F**K YOU TARGET!!
Off to Target to buy something, anything. I support free speech no matter what. Shame all Americans can't except other points of view. Target is my kind of store!
Wait, as in like *THE* William Kuit?!? From ubal?
Guess I'll be starting my Christmas shopping early this year. I'll be doing most of it at Target too, just to PO the lefties and Gay activists. I normally could care less what 2 people (or more) do behind closed doors, but when you throw it in my face you've gone too far! What next? Adult/Child marriages? How about someone marrying their Shetland pony? Marriage is a sacred bond recognized by society throughout the ages as 1 man and 1 woman for the purpose of procreation and the rearing of children. 2 men or 2 women CANNOT procreate. Thus it is NOT a marriage. I have no problem with civil unions, just keep your 'gayness' out of my face. Stand firm Target, most people agree with you.
Drew: Lol, so apparently to you a 5 year old is consenting and they understand what sex is hmm? And you've been watching too much Shrek. Contrary to what you see, donkey's really cannot talk or sign marriage contracts. Also, the notion that gay couples cannot reproduce is false, as there is artificial insemination, etc etc. Of course you will probably say it's "artificial", but so is flying an airplane, using a computer, and driving a car, but you don't object to those things hmm? And the procreation argument falls flat, since it is not required for straight couples to reproduce when they are married. Do us all a favor and keep your bigotry (and bad trolling) in the closet. We are here to stay, "whether you like it or not" =)
Homosexuality is not a sin according to the Bible. Scholars who have studied the Bible in context of the times and in relation to other passages have shown those passages (Leviticus, Corinthians, Romans, etc) have nothing to do with homosexuality. These passages often cherry-picked while ignoring the rest of the Bible. The sins theses passages are referring to are idolatry, prostitution, and rape, not homosexuality.

Homosexuality is not a choice. Just like you don't choose the color of your skin, you cannot choose whom you are sexually attracted to. If you can, sorry, but you are not heterosexual, you are bi-sexual. Virtually all major psychological and medical experts agree that sexual orientation is NOT a choice. Most gay people will tell you its not a choice. Common sense will tell you its not a choice. While science is relatively new to studying homosexuality, studies tend to indicate that its biological.

The National Library of Medicine pubs confirm that sexual orientation is natural, biologically induced in the first trimester of pregnancy, morally neutral, immutable, neither contagious nor learned, bearing no relation to an individuals ability to form deep and lasting relationships, to parent children, to work or to contribute to society.
From the American Psychological Association: homosexuality is normal; homosexual relationships are normal.
The American Academy of Pediatrics, American Psychological Asociation and American Psychiatric Asociation have endorsed civil marriage for same-sex couples because marriage strengthens mental and physical health and longevity of couples, and provides greater legal and financial security for children, parents and seniors.
America's premier child/mental health associations endorse marriage equality.
I'm sure the gays will attack the CEO physically or his family and friends. Or try and destroy all the executives families. Like they always do. Because we all know they have no constitutional rights to their own opinions like the gays do.
Just an FYI:
Unless you are planning on protesting Target CORPORATE headquarters, you really aren't talking to the right people. I work for Target as a part-time job to pay my way through school and FULLY support gay marriage. We as store employees don't decide who the company is going to support in elections, our corporate managers (who, by the way, none of us have EVER met) do. So, go ahead and keep "boycotting" Target by not buying something, but by doing so, you are keeping hardworking and open-minded people, like myself without a job. Truthfully, I think your time would be better spent in writing our corporate headquarters and leaving innocent people like my co-workers to do their jobs. Many of us are writing our "higher-ups" as well.
" I'm sure the gays will attack the CEO physically or his family and friends. Or try and destroy all the executives families. Like they always do."
Like they always do? That is quite a claim! I have never heard of these roving platoons of gay attack squads. Can you please give us even one example to back up your statement?
Target has every right to give money to who they want. Of course all actions have consequences. As such, I'll shop elsewhere now. If I were an employee of Target, especially one that supported marriage equality for all adults, I'd be offended and embarrassed by my company's actions. I wouldn't hesitate to contact corporate HQ and share my views since it's likely to hurt me financially. It's unfortunate the employees of any company have to suffer when their leadership makes bad decisions...but it's reality.
America IS free speech and i as a gay person choose to BOYCOT.
Marriage is a CIVIL right, not a religious one.
If marriage is about PROCREATION as Drew ( above) has posted, then why do we allow People over the age of 50 to marry? they cant bare children????? and marrying a shetland pony? How sad some are so ignorant.

I have no idea why it keeps posting my comments over and over. Each time I've come back to here today it's posted again.

You're kidding right. How about Miss America pageant. They tried to destroy her for her beliefs. How about California, they wanted every persons name who voted against the homosexuals so they could harass them. They are a violent group and will force or use intimidation to achieve their degenerate agenda.
@A - I'm sorry, I'm one of the 250,000 signatures move-on presented to Target. I plan on sticking to the boycott, and it was a tough decision because it could hurt people such as yourself who are caught in the crossfire between corporate headquarters and people such as ourselves who need to stand up and show companies that just because the Citizens United ruling allows them to interject large sums of money into elections, it is not a good idea for them as a company to do so. They need to understand that what they may gain in political favors, they will loose in their customer's loyalty. As an employee, you need to let them know that you are seeing effects of their decision and that they need to act accordingly to correct it. I'm sorry, I really like shopping at Target, and hate avoiding it. I hope it gets resoved soon so no one looses a job and I can go back to a store I like.
@Michael O
You're kidding right? You give Carrie Prejean as an example - you said they'd be attacked physically. I don't think Prejean got attacked physically - just verbally - and if I recall, she has made a career out of being "attacked" and has probably gotten more publicity and made more money than she ever would have just becoming another Miss America.
You want to talk about "attacked physically" - Matthew Shephard comes to mind as well as many others gay people too numerous to identify here who have not only been attacked physically, but sometimes actually killed. You want to come back with stories of actual physical abuse and not just verbal abuse, let me know. I will give you one - Anita Bryant got a pie thrown at her in the 70's.
"You want to talk about "attacked physically" - Matthew Shephard"
Or the two homosexuals that raped and killed a little boy.
The point, they harass anyone whom goes against their hate agenda of destroying marriage.
Fred, your values and ideas are as poor as your spelling. That would be "accept" not "except other views" You deserve a store that endorses Tom Emmer.
Target is not against gays. Target is against those that work for the stores that are aged 45 years or older. Those employees will have their hours cut until they quit and if they don't quit they will trump up some b.s. reason to fire them. This has happened to several people in the Columbia Missouri area. There's a real reason to boycott.
I'm still not shopping there, don't think we forget something like that, that kind of thing sticks with you for a LONG time.
